Please explain how to brighten color sharpen eyes photoshop tutorial: photoshop beginners

everybody occurred back to here from Craig Becker calm and in this video I'm going to show you how to color brighten and sharpen eyes in Photoshop all right here we are in Photoshop and it's Greg vector from Craig vector comm this is shot I took with two lights we have a silver beauty dish in front you can see the catch light in your eyes and then we have a hair light right here alright let's get started on this retouch the first thing I'm going to do is try to bring out some brightness and some contrast in her eyes so I'm gonna come up here to my lasso tool if I right click you can see I have the lasso tool select it now I'm just gonna circle her eye and then I'm gonna hold down the shift key and I'm gonna circle this eye and I'm going to hit command J so I've got a new layer there now I'm gonna come up and go image adjustments shadows and highlights and now you can see we've had our eyes just kind of pop up so I'm gonna zoom in by pressing command + or ctrl on the PC and you can see her eyes now are a little bit overdone so let's bring this amount down to about let's start it about 5 percent here and now we can toggle off with the preview so you can see we've just brightened it a little bit so let's bring that up to about 10 right there and we've got the preview so we've brighten that area and then we've got some highlights here and let's bring that up and you can see it's actually dark into her eyes so let's bring that down to about 10 so we've got about 10 and 11 there so you can see we just added a little bit of popular eyes we're gonna say okay so now if I toggle on and off there right there in the top layer you can see that it's sort of brightens our eyes but it's affecting a broader area so what we want to do is put a mask on there so if I hold option or alt on the PC and click right here now we have a mask that's masking that effect so now what we can do is we can click on the black mask we can come over here press the D key and that will give us black and white and then with the X key we can toggle back and forth so now I'm on white and if I click on the brush tool I'm on 100% 100% if I come up here I've got a 67 pixel brush and it's a zero hardness so it's a soft brush now I'm going to zoom in by clicking on command + on the Mac ctrl + on the PC so now I can see both our eyes now with the bracket key I'm going to make my brush a little smaller now what I'm gonna do is is painting that effect where I want it on her eyes so there's gonna be a subtle brightening of her eyes there and I'm just gonna leave the outer part of the eye and the inner part of her eye and I'm just gonna sort of brighten up this amber area here of her eye and then I'm gonna go over that little catch light there and so I just want to kind of bring in a subtle brightening now this is just one way there's many ways that you can brighten eyes and I'll show you another way in a second and then we're just gonna go like that and it's just kind of a subtle brightening in a second I'll I'll toggle on and off and you can see what I mean there and so if I toggle on and off you can see that it sort of brought some crispness and some colors into her eyes there that weren't there before and a brightness that doesn't look fake and they'll zoom out and you'll see it's just a real subtle effect there and I'll just go to paint in a little more and if we want to see what we paint it we can click on the option key or the Alt key on the PC click on the mask and you can see we've got this area here where we have it painted so a click option again or all to the PC and then there we are now I'll toggle on and off and you can see the effect and I'll just sort of zoom out a bit and you can see that it's just sort of added some pop to her eyes that weren't there before and brought out some brights but not in a fake or phony way and it added some sharpness too to the eyes so that's one way where you can brighten eyes and if you feel that you've gone too far you can just go up to your opacity layer here and maybe bring it down to about 70% and we'll just toggle on and off and so you can adjust the opacity of that effect right there all right so that was the first tip there how to brighten eyes now I have a 90 minute retouching tutorial that you can access and I also have a free 20 minute advanced tutorial and I'll have that link pop-up so if you like this technique you should check out mine at least my free mini tutorial it's a 20 minute advanced one and if you like that well you can always get my 90 minute one anyway let's go onto the next step so we've brightened her eyes now let's say we wanted to color her eyes so what we can do is create another layer now I can choose any color I want and let's go into maybe pick a color that's already in her eyes and maybe we'll just try to emphasize that color so I'm gonna come over here I'm on the brush tool I'm just gonna make my brush a little smaller and with the option key I'm just gonna sample that color and you can see here we've got it over in our palette now so let's go a little bit smaller I want to sample a brighter color so let's go with about here so option click alright so now I have that color now if I wanted to make it a little brighter I can just kind of go here and say well I want it to be a bit of that color that seems like a nice color to me and then what I could do is I could paint in here and then we can adjust the opacity and change the color so I'm just gonna paint broadly in this area for now and I'm gonna show you some different tricks that you can do in case well obviously this is not looking too good right now so let me just step back and I'll do this again I'll just undo what I've done alright so kind of a pretty decent sized brush I don't want to get too close to here and I'm just gonna paint in this area here and then what I can do is I can reduce the opacity and I can change the blend modes and I can get this to blend in a little more than it is right now so I'm just gonna paint this in here and then we'll go over to the other eye and we'll do the same thing I'm just gonna paint this in here and I'll show you how it's gonna look here and I'll show you some of the different blend modes and what you could do so I'm gonna keep some of that darker color on the outside of the eye and I'm just pretty good right there I mean it could be better but it's demonstration purposes I can't just zoom out a bit so we can look at her eyes now it's looking kind of weird but there's different things I can do if I go to my blend mode and go to saturation you can see I have a certain effect there with my saturation if I go the luminosity that's not a very desirable effect if I go to color we've got a different effect now if we go to hue you're gonna get a real subtle effect there if you could see where I click on an off it's it's barely noticeable so let's say we went with color and we reduce the opacity to about let's say about 40% then we toggle on and off you can see we've just kind of let's go to book 30 that's gonna look more real you can see we've just slightly enhanced the color but you could see we've also got all the detail in her eye also if we want to say a soft light mode you can see here that the effect is a lot less so let's bring that up so there's no effect there's the color we've added now let's lower the opacity say to about 50% and you can click on and off you can see that might be too much for some people so let's go back down to about 40 and then you can see here's the two effects we've added now so that's how we had it originally we've added some brightness and contrast and now we've added a little bit of color now if I wanted to take that and add more color and come down here and say hue and saturation I know I can create a clipping mask so it's only gonna affect a layer below it so if I hold option or alt on the PC and click right here now you can see that little arrow now this is only gonna affect this layer here where we've painted on her eyes so if I click on this I can reduce the saturation or I can change the color and let me just raise this layer so you could see it a little better as I do that so now you see that we're affecting the color that we just painted on her eyes so we could take it and change that we can change the saturation if we want to and certain colors are gonna work and other ones are not going to work just based on our skin tone and our original aya color but you can see that if we just sort of take that right there that's kind of nice and then of course we can just reduce the opacity a bit make that blend a little more so bring it down to about 50 so it's just another trick that you can do as far as changing the color now the one last step what I'm going to do is I'm just going to say shift option command II I'm gonna merge all those layers to the top and what I'm gonna do is come up here and say filter sharpen smart sharpen now I'm gonna apply this globally and then I'm only an applied to her eyes so now we can kind of see a preview here and you can see her eyes are fairly sharp if I click off the preview and I click on you can see it's just a subtle sharpening and I've got 121 and 1.2 so I'm gonna say okay then what I'm gonna do is I don't want to sharpen the whole image that so I'm just gonna sharpen her eyes I was gonna drag that over by holding the spacebar and touching that with the hand I could drag the image around it now I'm on this layer where I just sharpened it if I click option here again I'm gonna put a mask so nothing is show up right now so I'm gonna click on the mask coming over here I've got white I've got my soft brush we could even go with the harder brush but it doesn't really matter so I've got a soft brush 100% opacity whatever percent flow and I'm just gonna paint in that sharpness where I want it so I'm not gonna sharpen the whites I'm just gonna sharpen here and you could see I'm sharpening her eyelashes those are popping in and I just want some detail in her eyes so I'm sharpening the lashes I'm going to sharpen the colors here and then the border of her eye right there bringing some sharpness right there on the beauty dish catch light so and then also here I can sharpen just her eyebrows so I'm really just bringing some emphasis to her eye area right here with this sharpening I could do a more global sharpening but maybe not as sharp on the whole image but this is really just gonna make her eyes pop a little more so I'm just kind of coloring that in and then we'll look at both these eyes and you'll see the the differences we've made all right so let's just toggle that sharpness on and off and you can see before her eyes didn't look that blurry but now that I don't have that on their watch sharpness is on sharpness is off sharpness is on sharpness is off and we have our our hue/saturation color and then we have our color that we effected to our eyes and then we have the pop so let me just zoom out just a touch now so there's nothing then we've got a little brightness and contrast there we've got a little color we've added and I said we can take that down to maybe 30% if you think it's too much so there's just a little pop of color there's a change in color with that effect right there we can also adjust this because it's on its own layer the blend mode the opacity of that color and then we have the sharpness you can see right there so there you go you can brighten color and sharpen eyes and Photoshop if you liked this tutorial make sure
