Please explain how to use glass etching cream! diy uses for cricut stencil vinyl with the cricut explore

hey guys welcome to my channel today we're gonna do the cricut explore glass etching so we're gonna learn to etch some glass some easy tips and tricks and things that i've learned to help make it a little bit easier so the tools you need today is some kind of glass and what i like to use is the cricut uh stencil vinyl what it looks like is this um it's transparent just has a blue tint to it but i like all the lines so that you can even and then you need some etching liquid uh what i like to use is this armor etch glass etching cream if you could see it i got mine at joann's um i had a sixty percent off coupon so i paid i think this was regular ten dollars i went ahead and i already took it to my mat and cut it out it's just my name it says jeff so what we're gonna do okay and i don't need to use any transfer tape and i'll show you why in just a second so we're going to kind of weed these letters off of there actually be easier if we did it this way so you can see there okay and there's the outline this is this part so here's the cutout let's see i think that's pretty good up right there at the j just make sure you look all the way around those layers i am a lefty so it probably looks a little bit odd to everybody put those out of the way let's get those out of the way i'm just kind of scooting the bubbles out of the way now looks pretty good like the edges are all smoothed down a little bit on that f right there but again like i said that's why i love this cricket stencil vinyl because i could pull it up and do it again okay also you're gonna need a brush so i got these little stencil brushes at walmart um it's the folk art brand i think they were like three dollars or something and there was all kinds of different ones different sizes today i'm going to use this size because it seems to work best for these little small letters okay now when you use this glass etching you need to use gloves and if you're a kid please get your mom's supervision because you do not want to get this stuff on your hands it will burn you and it will send you to the emergency room so please don't get it on your hands i'm just going to set it on that because you don't want to get it on any of the glass that you don't want etched so there's that okay you can see it there i'm gonna move it around again i am a lefty so i gotta okay so i just dab my brush in just a little bit and the first part all i do is dab it on just up and down motion dabbing it on because we're not trying to get it up and underneath our stencil so we want to keep our lines straight we want those crisp edges down just a little bit work my brush out again i'm just going right down the letters dabbing it on as i go my brush dries out i get a little bit more this stuff doesn't take much a little goes a long way so don't try to just glob it on there another thing the directions they say to just put it on with i don't remember what it says but it only says to leave it on for 60 seconds i don't think that does has enough time to do what the look that i'm going for it may uh it may do just a little bit of etching but i don't think that allows enough time i like to do it for about six to eight minutes i've never done it any longer i've actually never done any less so i couldn't be for sure about that again i'm just gonna go right through here with it being really careful not to drop any on the other glass you can actually cover the rest of the glass up with paper or whatever you need to um it's a bit tacky so you don't have to worry about it just running right off of the brush it does have a little bit of tackiness to it so again i'm going through and just dabbing you can hear me just dabbing across it okay now there it is we've got it on there i'm gonna put my lid on here real quick um and the directions here say maybe the directions were on the package i think they were actually i don't have the package i don't know how long i've had this anyways it says just leave it for 60 seconds and then rinse it off i don't like to do that like i said i don't think it takes it takes a little longer than that um also i think if you just left it on here it doesn't itch you get little places where you maybe not got enough and it doesn't etch it as much as other places so for the first couple minutes like i go back and just dab again again i'm dabbing because i don't want to try to work it underneath our stencil so we won't get those crisp clean lines so i'm going back through and dabbing it sometimes you have to go back and put a little bit extra on there or i like to just a bit but once i sit there and dabbed it like this for a little bit dab it dab it i'm just going to go through and keep doing this and then after i've done this for a bit i like to go back through it all and go in different directions but i want to go kind of up and down dabbing again stay away from the edges too much but what i found out with this crooked stencil it really doesn't get under there if you got rid of the bubbles so you have more so i go kind of up and down all the way through it just flicking my brush up and down and then i want to go back through and just kind of push it sideways being very very careful not to lift up the stencils so i actually could have used a smaller brush but the stencil should stay down just as good like i said i just like to work it in it helps get every spot in there instead of just putting it on and letting it sit so i'm gonna go down again anyways guys this is probably my first youtube video that you'll see um i want to start doing more i hope i can do more um so if you guys like this one just let me know maybe i can make some more um i do a lot of little different things i'm a hairdresser by day and then i do some crafts and things at night i've been doing quite a few things with palettes and stuff so maybe we can do some tutorials like that um i'd also like to vlog a little bit and let everybody get to know me and my life i spend hours and hours at night watching youtube videos tutorials like this and vlogs and following people around and i really really like it it's a good outlet um i just being here at home at night by yourself is no fun i mean it's not bad but it gets lonely every now and then um and so it's good to have somebody to vent to so hopefully i can start venting to you guys maybe not maybe nobody wants to hear me talk or nobody wants to see me walk around with a camera my life's pretty boring no it's not as boring as anybody's but anyways i just keep dabbing it and the last couple minutes you know i won't do this but you can see here on the end where i'm running out of stuff stuff out of etching cream i like to open it up here just get just a little bit i mean you don't need much at all you don't want to use too much again if i was doing it on a mug or a shot glass or a pan that had a little curvature to it you want to be careful and not use too much so that it doesn't run off of your stencil and onto the glass that you don't want you that you don't want edged get all that in those corners real quick to get those good lines there okay looks like it's in there good so now we're gonna let that sit i haven't even timed it what kind of tutorial is that if you don't even time it but really who really times anything like this so we'll leave that sitting there for just a few minutes make sure you put the lid back on this and rinse that brush out so let's let that sit for just a few minutes and what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna let it sit for a couple more minutes then i'm gonna take it to the sink and you rinse it off really good really really good i like to use warm water to get it off there because sometimes it's hard to come off and then once i've got it about rinsed off then i'll pull the stencil off and i'll rinse it really good and then take a towel and kind of dry it off so the next time you see it is when it'll be cleaned off i'll see you in just a second okay guys we're back um i took it to the sink and i rinsed it really good in warm water and then i pulled the stencil off here and then rinsed it a little better and then took some glass cleaner and cleaned it off and here's what we got let's see there we go you can see it really good it looks really good it turned out great super clean lines no problems at all looks really really good and if you notice the etching is really even you don't get any spots normally like if you just kind of put it on you get little spots through it there where the glass etching didn't work as well and that was for us working it in back and forth a little bit worked really good like i said six to eight minutes something like that works really good we probably went over that because i was running my mouth but if you can kind of see it there you go turned out really really good really good so you can do this like i said on picture frames you can do it on mirrors you know little designs around the corners the edges and stuff you can do it on glass mugs cups uh shot glasses it's really cool because you can do any kind of design you can monogram it whatever just remember if you do it on like a pyrex dish or a cutting board or anything that there's going to be glass between the etching and the surface like this was a glass cutting board you would lay it over this side it would be backwards so remember to use your mirror image button on your cricut design space before you start cutting so there we go turned out really good i hope this helped you guys i hope you enjoyed it
