Please explain how to neutralize / remove chlorine & chloramines from tap water using vitamin c powder

hey there how's it going everybody welcome back plant abundance here so I've got a quick gardening tip for you today this is an important one this is in regards to the chlorine and chloramine that comes in too many homes through the water supply that we may be using to feed our garden or plants or make compost tea it's really important that we remove these chlorine and chloramines especially before making a batch of compost tea and we're trying to proliferate the beneficial bacteria but even watering your plants this can be detrimental and so I've come up with a solution low-cost solution that can work for it so I've made several videos in the past going over how I grew a batch of compost tea and different discussions have been made throughout those videos in regards to the chloramines and the inability to actually use the air pump to aerate and dissipate those chloramines in the water now chloramine is chlorine and ammonia bonded together and that bond makes it a lot stronger and lasts a lot longer so aerating your water before a batch of compost tea for 24 hours might not be suffice in order to dissipate those chemicals and so you're probably going to need to add something into the water in order to neutralize the chlorine and the flora means that are coming through the tap so what got me really interested in ways to do this is when I started to build my fish pond here and it's really important for the water that you add into your fish pond to not have chlorine or chloramines in it and so I use a water softener it's a quad conditioner and I put in about a half a teaspoon of this liquid into about 30 gallons of water when I'm pumping water into here and that will neutralize almost instantly the chloramines that are in the water here we have chloramines you may have chlorine unless you're getting well water or you've got some sort of spring water or something or river water that you're using most people are going to have chlorine and chloramines in the water so I've got me thinking can I use this pond conditioner to treat the water that I'm using to make my compost tea or to water my garden with and the results that I came up with after doing many hours of research on this came up inconclusive not quite sure if using that pond conditioner long term could have a detrimental effect on the plants I think it's probably still better than the poor means but I started digging deeper and I came across was the use of vitamin C powder as a way to neutralize the chloramines and not only is this cheaper but vitamin C can't actually be beneficial to your plants as well you only need actually a thousand milligrams to treat about 30 to 50 gallons of water so just a quarter of a teaspoon of this powder would be suffice for treating my 25 gallon batches of compost tea that I brew not only that it's going to save me time because I can forego the 24 hour period where I'm heir rating the water to get it ready to add in the worm castings and other ingredients to make my tea and by using the vitamin C powder instead of actually trying to aerate the water for 24 hours I know for sure we're able to neutralize these chloramines in as little as 10 minutes the half-life of the vitamin C in the chlorinated water is said to be about four minutes for 30 to 50 gallons which is also about the size of a bathtub so some folks actually will add in the vitamin C powder into their bath as well so that they're not absorbing these chlorine and chloramines there's also vitamin C shower filters on the market which can be useful in order to keep that chlorine and chloramine off your skin and getting into your bloodstream and there are inline filters used for gardening they can get a little pricey but that's another option so anyway let me just share with you how I go about doing this now this is my twenty five gallon compost tea brewer and I'm just gonna fill it up with some tap water that's that's about good right there I'm going to add in about a half a teaspoon of the vitamin C powder there's 25 gallons and then we'll just give this about ten minutes for that to start working and then we'll go ahead and add in the worm castings and start the aeration process using the air pump I'm just going to scoop out some nice homemade worm castings here I should do it see how the worms are doing while we're here have been getting a lot of juice pulp lately cuz I've been doing a lot of juicing now in making compost tea this is so important because we're actually doing during the 24 hours that we're raiding this compost here is we're proliferating the beneficial bacteria and the microbes that we're going to be spraying throughout the garden so if there's chlorine or chlorine in the water that's gonna in effect disinfect and kill off the bacteria and after the tea is brewed I then broadcast it throughout the garden using a transfer pump now you could use the same exact technique just to water your garden you could get a larger container or a tank rather than have just a 25 gallon it's actually a 30 gallon trash can and just by simply adding in that vitamin C prior to transferring the water out to water your plants you would be in effect removing that chlorine and the chloramine from causing any harm to the plants and this can especially be beneficial if you're gardening in raised beds or garden pots where the roots of the plant are restricted just to the soil within the pot I found that even watering with standard tap water in my garden which I often do I'm not seeing many detrimental effects but in the case of compost tea for myself this is going to come in handy this is a game changer for me here I think it's going to be for you too that's why I decided to put this video out there all right so it's been about 10 minutes so I'm going to take my worm castings here and I'm going to install this aerating wand which attaches to this coupler tee right here and that's going to pump air through the worm castings and into the tank the oxygen is crucial in order to proliferate once that's installed I just clip the excess bag up so it doesn't open up and all the worm castings come out into the tank the two other ingredients are going to be the organic liquid kelp and also the unsalted molasses here I'm going to do a half a cup of each approximately and this is a food source for the microbes and it's also added nutrients for the plants all right so I've got all my ingredients in here and I've got my air pump hooked up this hose is attached to the PVC pipe and the PVC pipe goes all the way down to the bottom of the tank and through the wand and there's holes for the air to come out and aerate all the water let's turn it on and in 24 hours so tomorrow evening at the same time I'll be out here broadcasting this tea over all my plants in this area of the garden and I'm just going to throw the lid on that's all there is to it so I hope you found it helpful and with that hope you're having a great night and I'll be talking again soon take care just a quick reminder Dino tree kale seeds are still available right now so if you're interested I'll put a link below this video it's a PayPal link and that'll bring it straight to the order page where you can enter in your shipping info and now is the time to get those seeds in hand and you can get them started and ready for this upcoming fall or save them till next spring I just want to send out a big thank you to everybody who's already purchased seeds I really do appreciate that and the support that you've shown for the channel I'm
