so it's early June and here at cricket Hill garden our tree peonies have finished blooming now is the time that you'd want to deadhead them and what that term means it's cutting the old the seed pods the reason to do that is the plant expends a lot of energy ripening these seeds that's done from now for the next about two months these seeds are would be mature in mid-august but if you don't want to collect the seeds you want to cut the seed pod off because otherwise the plant is just going to be wasting energy on them so when you deadhead you want to make sure that you're not going to cut below next year's bud we can see right here that's next year's flower bud right there so when we deadhead we just cut right below the seed pod right like that now if you do decide you want to raise try your hand at raising some candies from seed you would not want to cut the seed pod you just leave them like this until mid to late August and they'll just be they'll begin to swell and then you know they'll turn a darker brown color in August and that's when you want to harvest them but we'll revisit that at the appropriate time and talks about collecting tree peony seeds and germinating pieces okay have a great summer
