whether complimenting a meal relaxing or entertaining cocktails and spirits can spark your dining and social experiences join celebrity taste makers beyond the bar as we mix this week's liquid recipe or the sip I'm Caitlin Monte beyond the bar with Shane Hanson from Croton reservoir Tavern in New York City and you've invented a cocktail the poison apple for which you've chosen Belvedere Vodka for a particular reason yes vodka is a very fun spirit to mix because you can disguise the flavor a lot but we do particularly sources everything on-site to write based vodka which adds a lot of flavor profile to it also they're one of the very few of our distillery those sources our water on-site which means a flavor profile in the creating of the vodka is totally controlled in-house throughout so when you mix it with certain flavors the flavor profile of the Spirit will stand out show me how it's done start with two ounces of Belvedere Vodka add a half an ounce of lemon juice two ounces of hand pressed apple cider then it's sweetened with thyme infused simple syrup and pomegranate molasses add two dashes of classic southern style bitters two dashes of cinnamon to add a little spice very last ingredient is the egg white people get very confused by egg whites and cocktails but you do this for good for a really good reason this doesn't necessarily affect the flavor profile of the cocktail what it does is add body and intensity to the flavors that are already in there so an egg white is more texture and utility less for flavor exactly crack the egg three quarters of the way from the top leaving just a little bit you're gonna see with an egg yolk will sit and the egg white will spill out dry shake for about 10 seconds no ice then add ice and then you're gonna shake it again for another three to five seconds when you first begin to pour all the phones gonna come out right in front see for quick like this that's all foam then when you pour slow you can see the liquid come out you can see the froth start to foam the top so egg white adds up texture and also the frothing finish at the time that froth now becomes the pedestal upon which you will put some very interesting garden exactly two garnishes its candied apple slices this is a mix of cinnamon and sugar put them on the bamboo skewer and you just place them right on top of the drink drizzle pomegranate molasses when you bring the drink up you inhale the aromas of pomegranate and apple and that brings out those flavors in the cocktail oh it's so balanced and you were absolutely right about the bell video that I still taste the vodka in a flavour way thank you for making me your Snow White and making me a little poison apple cheers to you Cheers and if you would like to concoct a poison apple or learn more about making your own cocktails visit celebrity taste makers calm you'll find events updates and giveaways to take you beyond the bar until next time I'm Caitlin Monte here's to you from the sip
