hello my name is James manually I'm a guitarist and instructor at Clark College here in Vancouver Washington and today we'll discuss how to use a metronome properly now as you know there are many different types of metronomes out there there are the old pendulum metronomes and there are the newly electronic metronomes but the value of a metronome is very important to any musician learning how to keep time some of the points on metronomes that you would want to know is definitely set the time that you need to play the piece of music whether in 3/4 time or 4/4 time you would want to set the metronome properly for the beats per measure and tempos a lot of your old pendulum metronomes they indicate tempo markings with italian words such as Adagio moderato Allegro where the new that Unitron emic metronomes have it in number code as well and you can set it by just pressing the button on the metronome and raising the arrows excuse me raising the number is high or low indicating the tempo you desire so depending on the metronome that you have the functions and features will vary so read your instructions manual carefully but the general idea here is for the metronome to keep correct tempo for the particular piece of music that you're trying to play
