hello i'm emily from the wilton decorating room and today we're going to make this cute little unicorn hi i'm princess sparklehorn and i'm the national animal of scotland we're going to be using our wilton shape and maze edible decorating dough it's similar to gum paste and fondant but it's denser and stronger than fondant and it holds its shape really well which allows you to build up the characters right away if you are using fondant you'd have to let the pieces dry in between in order to prevent them from kind of slouching down this is way less of a pain you'll also have longer working time than you would with gum paste gum paste would be drying out on you while you're doing your thing here and building your character what a headache you're going to need it until it's a slightly lighter color that's nice and pliable you're going to love this measure and shape sizing tray we use this to create nice even sizing so your left leg is the same as your right leg or if you're making multiple characters now we're gonna make the body which is going to be a number 11 and a number eight now we're just gonna pop these out you can just push through the bottom and we're gonna knead them together a good tip for the dough you're not using is to keep it under a cup so that it won't dry out kind of like you would with fondant we're going to start by rolling the ball we're going to get out all of the wrinkles because that's very important now we're going to roll it into a cone we're going to use the side of our hand and just roll it on one side until it's a cone we're going to pick this up and we're going to push it onto the table so it stands upright now we're going to size our back legs we need two number fours so we'll roll just like we did for a comb but we're going to keep going leaving this side nice and fat and making this side kind of long and skinny now for this fat end we're going to squish it flat just like this we're going to make a little mark for our hoof we're going to use our knife tool don't worry it's not really that sharp you won't hurt yourself and we're just going to go all around we're going to attach our legs to our body we just need a little water it's the only glue you need and we'll just push it right on there we're going to size out our front legs so we're going to need two number threes we're going to roll them into balls no wrinkles now we're going to roll these balls into logs you want them to be just long enough to reach from the top of the body down to the bottom i'm going to use the knife tool to mark our hose now we're going to pinch the shoulders just right up here at the top and then we're going to attach them to the body just a little water next we're going to make the head we're going to be using a 10 and a 4 and knead those together and then we're gonna roll a ball then we're gonna shape this into a slight cone just like we did the body but we're gonna keep it kind of short now we're gonna use our knife tool again to mark around the muzzle little nostrils with our veining tool and i'm going to make two little holes for the eyes using this small dog bone tool and i like to add two little eyelashes on the side with the knife and next we're going to attach it to the body so first we're going to make a little divot using the big ball tool and for support we're going to use a toothpick if you need an edible option you could use a piece of raw uncooked spaghetti we need a little bit of water right there and go ahead and attach your head these black sugar pearls make perfect eyes just insert them into the head and now we're going to make our ears and our horn this number one is enough to make both of the ears and the horn now we're going to use our dog bone tool to elongate and cup our ears then we're going to cut off the bottoms using our knife tool and now we can attach to the head we'll roll a ball and then we're going to roll it into a cone we're going to give our horn a little texture using our knife tool we're going to paint our horn and our hooves gold using gold pearl dust and lemon extract we're going to use our dog bone tool we'll use the little green one to make a little dent right on his forehead and we need a little bit of water and we put the horn on we're gonna make his beautiful colorful hair we're gonna need six number twos so we're gonna color our first one with just a little bit of pink and next is orange and then some lemon yellow and some leaf green some sky blue and finally some violet and now we're going to break off little pieces of each of the color we'll roll them into a little ball and then into a nice long cone and then we're going to make little twisties and then we're just going to attach them on to our unicorn as hair and now you can put them on the cake right away and if you want you can make these ahead of time and store them for later use see how easy that was i'm emily and if you like this video be sure to give us a
