hi it's Jason Kerr from Kiev arm vineyard and commune is eland and as you can see it's a beautiful beautiful beautiful sunny afternoon at the start of winter here now winter is the time that we prune our grape vines and we prune them for a couple of reasons because the fruit only comes on the new seasons shoots we need to cut back all the old wood each year we do it at winter because the planters sucked all the SAP back from all the Canes into the truck where it stores it over winter ready for budburst and in the new season with no leaves also it's very easy to see the structure of the vines and easy to select which shoots we're going to keep as our canes or which we're going to use for cord ons I've made a little video on how we prune in New Zealand on both cane pruning and spur pruning so I'll put some links below I'll also give you a link to my youtube channel so if you'd like you can subscribe to that and there's lots of other videos that you can have a look at so nice to talk to you and I'll talk to you again soon thanks very much
