Please explain how to: sliding necklace knot / adjustable knife lanyard - preparedmind101

everybody's Christmas prepared my 101 I thought I'd do something a little bit different and give you something that you can use instead just showing you the latest greatest toy now I recently taught myself how to do a sliding necklace knot and I've been finding all sorts of uses for that with my gear for instance I made some trades here recently and I just picked myself up a new tops Tex Creek XL and I wanted to put a lanyard on it and I'd been putting just a straight piece of cord on my knives and using a cord lock to slide it up and down well I realized I could use this same not on the lanyard and it looks like it's just you know a little tied off in but actually put this on here and I just pull it down that tightens it to exactly where I want it to be on the knife and then I can just slide it down a little bit and have it down on the bottom of my hand so it's a very very loosen it up so very very useful not to learn and it's not that hard at off I can teach myself it hopefully I can teach you a lot of you probably already know it but this is for the people that don't I've used it on a lot of my neck lanyards like for my my vaporizer and all that kind of stuff it's just it's handy so I got a couple things I need to put it on so let me move the camera around and I'll show you how I do it okay first I want to show you how I use it most often which is an adjustable neck cord now some people will get upset with this because I have a certain percentage of people that see me with paracord lanyards and think I should put emergency snaps on it in case a ninja jumps out of the bushes and tries to strangle me with it but you know hey life is risk I can put this on and just pull and cinch it up to the exact length that I want it on my neck and then when I want to take it off I can just pull it open it up no problem so how do we do this okay I'm going to make like just a little accessory lanyard got this little hook on here a nice long piece of paracord what we want to do is lay it down like so and just kind of loop it around so they're overlapping and get it right about where you think the normal length of your lanyard is going to be so then what we're going to do is we're going to take this end or flip it around and then we're going to pick the pick these up pick these three strands up like so now we're going to start take the top one we're going to start wrapping it around and we want to wrap it toward this loop so I'm just going to go one two and try and get try and keep it as tight as possible three and I'll do three or four generally I think this is about as much as we can go so then we've got our three loops we've got our tag and put that through the loop and then pull it so that's nice nice and tight right there now that now you've got one of your sliders finished try and get it as tight as possible and then I'm going to end up just cutting that off right there and melting it down with my little torch lighter now we're going to do the second one take that flip it over pick this up and again we're going to we want to wrap toward this end of the loop so we go one a little bit hard to do it and keep it in the camera frame i'ma try to three sometimes you can just kind of pause and make sure they're nice and snug the third rap how many did I have on this one three and then through the loop so now we're going to finish it and then we're going to slide that and lock it nice and tight so now we've got both sides we can loosen it up so we can put it around our neck and then once it's around our neck you just reach back grab these two tighten it to the length that you want and if I want to make sure if I got enough there I want to make sure that I keep this straight at all times a lot of times what I'll do just grab that get down to the end here now I know I'm nice and even I'll just put a little overhand knot right there try and keep it as square as possible so now I know my little accessory cord no matter which way it's always nice and straight so let's finish this up real quick I guess my lighter ran out of fluid just want to melt my tag ends this is going to be a it's going to look a lot better if you're using black cord little too breezy out here get that when I get inside so there we go let's see what how it looks so here is our finished accessory cord so we can rip freash around tighten it to the length we want and clip on whatever it is here I'll just use my little ecig thing there we go I want to tighten it up higher pull it apart I want to lower it there you go nice and easy very very simple very very useful now how would we use this for making a knife lanyard one little extra thing I'd like to point out in my opinion the best thing to use if you're making some sort of a adjustable accessory lanyard is I like the Atwood four strand paracord it's about half the thickness of regular paracord so it's much seems a lot more reasonable hanging around your neck it's not so bulky and it's still pretty strong I think it's around 250 pounds test strength so that's generally what I use I've got one on my sink benedict metal and I've got one for my e-cig so I use these on all sorts of things but let's get back to the knife lanyard just as an example when I was messing around with this I threw one on my five and a half inch Tonto cold steel Voyager so it works rather well grab on there find that tag end pull it all I got pulled this way rotate it down that way you can get maybe you want to hold it in the rear position I can tighten down that Lane or even more and it's still nice and tight in my hand so that's why I like this particular lanyards but we're going to put this on a fixed blade okay so I got my tops to home a field knife here you want to put one of these lanyards on it so I'm just going to slide the knife down since you saw what it was I'm just going to go ahead sheath the knife for right now now we're just going to do a single slider on this so I'm just going to kind of find about the point that I want it going to loop it over so this is what we got top one is looped over bottom one is straight going to take our tag end take it over and start looping it around going toward the loop so there's one there's two pull that little tighter three generally like to go for round make sure it's nice and tight and then we're going to take it through the loop we're going to try to take it through the loop there we go so now we're through the loop we're going to just go ahead and tighten that down pull it through a little more tighten it down pull it through there we go now what we want to do at this point we've still got all this length right here so we want to determine where our hand is going to sit in the highest position that we might want to cinch this up so we're going to go up to the choil go ahead and tighten that up so we know right about there that's about as far as as long as we're going to want it so I'm going to take our hand out loosen it up just a little bit now we're just going to do a simple overhand knot get that down there close right about there try to get this as square as possible tighten it up and then I'm going to do a second one that way when it is all the way cinched opened up the slider is going to be up against this one we're still going to have another knot to grab ahold of with our finger to loosen it up get that nice and square now the next step go ahead and cut our excess off again I'm dealing with the wind here I'll finish that up better when I'm inside cut off our excess using the tops candy trucker I'll finish that out of the wind so let's see how this thing looks so I've got it all loosened up on the knife I can just put my hand through pull it that way get it is loose as I want or as tight as I want and if you want if you need to adjust it like say you got too much right here you don't want all that excess I could go ahead and just put one other overhand knot in this right here and make that the first knot and then just cut this one off here and then you've got it exactly what you want but right here everything is good I can just rotate this down that way the slider knot is down here out of my way if I'm doing a lot of work so it's pretty versatile very very adjustable and it's really easy to do I'll tell you right now I suck at knots so just the fact that I was able to figure this out watching one video or the dude who's like talking some sort of crazy accent you should be able to follow this and figure it out relatively quickly so there you go that's using two of them for a mech lanyard like right here got tops candy trekker got it up out of the way and it's plenty solid enough that I can just yank it out of the Kydex even if it's tight kite at Kydex and those knots aren't going to totally loosen up and when you want to take it off give it a pull take it off and then for knife lanyards there that just looks like a tied lanyard put it on pull nice and tight you can do your work safely hopefully that helps you if you haven't seen something like that before I'm just I'm working on the different kind of skills that I don't pay enough attention to like knots and things like that so I've just been sitting there you know I'm out shooting the bow and arrow during the day and working on videos during the day and if I'm sitting it sitting around at night watching TV or something like that I'm just grabbing a piece of paracord and working on things that I can use a lot and that is one of the most useful knots that I have learned will always has that on his different lanyards and I was like man how do you do that I just take the two ends together do an overhand knot and it looks like crap but those are pretty cool pretty adjustable I like them so hopefully that helps anyway I'm Chris from prepare my 1 1 thanks for watching be sure to click like share and subscribe follow me on Facebook facebook.com forward slash prepared mine 101 and since it's winter I just added I did have a clothing section on prepared my 101 store prepare my 101.com Ida lead that Paige did a new one and started adding a lot of wool stuff
