this is a West music trumpet care kit we will be demonstrating the proper use of the items within the care kit the trumpet care kit comes with a jar of tuning slide grease a valve brush a mouthpiece brush a bottle of valve oil a snake and a West music polishing rag the most important maintenance for any brass instrument like the trumpet is making sure the valves are oiled regularly with valve oil just a few drops on a very regular basis I recommend every time the instrument is played the oil will distribute itself around the piston so placing just a few drops on the piston surface will be sufficient in this demonstration on me taking care to not move spin or twist the piston this way the valve will stay in its proper position when removing the piston be sure to take notice of the numbering on the valve and the valve guides when it comes out so you know how to put it back in so it's in the correct position in this case the number faces towards the front of the instrument out the back so we want to make sure it goes back in in the same direction the valve guides will click into place and it is centered that should be done regularly preferably with every use of the instrument on a regular basis the mouthpiece should be cleaned this can be done under the faucet with water and liquid dish soap the brush will clean the inside of the instrument inside of the mouthpiece clean the inside of the instrument where's the snake breath we insert that through the lead pipe through the mouthpiece receiver and it will clean the lead pipe and it will emerge at the tuning slide receiver we can use the snake on the tuning slide tubes and then before we reinstall these slides we will apply grease to the inner slide two portions I'll move any excess grease Esmee the valve casing brush will clean out the casings and that can be pushed through the instrument so make sure to line up our piston correctly we can repeat that for all three valve casings to care for the outside of the instrument we use our polishing cloth to remove fingerprints dirt and debris and we finish you
