Please explain how to make a ruffle scarf on a loom

hi my name is Stephanie Martinez and I have volunteer as a craft instructor for craft stores like Hobby Lobby and jo-ann's fabric and Michaels today I am going to show you how to make a promise car like the one that I'm wearing thank you okay I'm going to take it off that way I don't get a hum in the loom what I'm showing you how to make the scarf you're going to need supplies and the first thing that you're going to need is yarn and there's a specific kind of yarn that we used to do that it's kind of like a fishnet I guess is the best way to describe it here I'll show you what it looks like there's a finished edge and it looks kind of like tape and that's the part that we use to make the pretty ruffle and the perk that we work with is the very top I'm finished part so you're only going to be using the very top row of this yarn and you're going to need a loom you can get these at any craft store they're about five bucks you need a hook those are about a dollar fifty you need scissors and you need a rubber band okay I usually just kind of throw the skein down on the floor because it's a little easier to work with that way you can kind of just pull up what you need you kind of want to separate this out a little bit because when it comes off the skein it's kind of tight it's it's all scrunched up like that it's hard to work with okay first thing that you're gonna want to do is go about five or six stitches in and pick a hole and that's where you're gonna start so basically you're going to take the loom and you're gonna do one row across the top skipping holes skipping holes is the very important part to these ruffle scarves that's what makes the cute little ruffle that dangles so you're gonna go all the way across the loom skipping holes with one the very top row of yarn and once you get to the end you're just gonna skip another hole and you're gonna go back to the other way okay you can see what I'm doing here so once you get two rows on that is kind of the next point see two rows on here and I will show you okay I bet yours on now so you kind of want to grab it and you'll notice that the loom there's kind of like little hooks at the end so you want to push that second row that you just did down to those little little hook there okay and then you're gonna take the hook and you're gonna pull that very first row that you did that's up against the back over the end of the peg okay everybody see what I'm doing so you pull that over the peg until you've got one row on again and you want to be very careful not to pull those the yarn off of the pegs but then basically the row that was here you push it to the back and you go again and you're gonna put another row so whichever ends your yarn is on that's where you skip the hole and you start again then you go across and basically it's that same process over and over and over again to make this scarf you just you get a row you get two rows on there pull the first row down to the the first row I'm sorry goes to the back of it a peg in the the row that you just did stays down here on those little hooks and then you pull that back row over the top row and over the peg and that is what creates those ruffles in the scarf and it doesn't look like much when you first start but don't worry it'll it'll pick up okay I have one that I've got started a little farther than I'm going to show you see this is what you start to get the longer there you go and you can whip this out probably on your first one an amazing about an hour and a half but the more you do it the faster you get and you can get them done in about an hour so it's kind of a fun little thing to do like while you're watching TV and they're great gifts like Christmas gifts or day gifts just want to give your friend a gift to make her day and everybody loves a cute little ruffle scarf okay so I'm going to show you basically how to end these really quickly when you get it as long as you want it and they're like I like mine a little shorter you could actually just keep going until you get almost to the end of the skein but I don't like mine that long I like to do on about like from what one instant my it my waist draped over my neck to the other end because I kind of just loop them you don't even have to tie them but because they're cute they hang pretty without that but whatever length you want that's what you do okay to end them the trick is you've got to have one row left like on so like once you've got that one row pulled over and you've got one row back up against it that's what you're gonna do to end it so you're gonna take this row and instead of pulling it over the yarn like you were before you're gonna pull it off this peg and you're gonna put it on this peg it doesn't matter which end you start from as long as you just work the same direction so then you're going to take that back piece over the peg again and over that PC yarn and then you're gonna pull that yarn off that peg and put it on the next peg over and pull that back piece over and you just keep repeating that same process until you get to the end and that very last peg right there you can kind of pull it down a little bit make it tighter and easier to work with when it's loose it's a little bit harder okay so if I can get that everybody see what I did okay so now you get to the very last loop you're gonna grab a hold of that and you're going to cut the yarn remember in the beginning we started about five or six inches out you're gonna do the same thing here and you're gonna cut it just like I did and then you're gonna feed this piece through that loop that's what keeps it from unraveling so then you're just going to take it and you're gonna make a little knot there like that and then basically you can lay it down and you're just going to take this knot you've got a little bit left here and you're gonna find another piece somewhere in that scarf and feed it through and make another knot oq3 inches in is sufficient you're gonna not it again everyone see what I'm doing and basically that's what makes that cute little ruffle bell-shaped end on your scarf and you're gonna do the exact same thing or you started you're gonna make like a little knot down here somewhere there we go it's not cooperating with me at the moment okay and then you're gonna lay it down throw you see that flat side up and you're gonna feed this through another piece another little hole and you're gonna make a knot again and that is all there is to it and you can whip these out like I said in about an hour does anyone have any questions if not thank you for your attention today and go have fun making ruffle scarves thank you
