hello everyone i'm joshua clement flighty contractors and today i'm going to show you how to install a solid wood door for this job you'll need a couple things you will need a tape measure shims you will also need a level and this is a trim gun if you don't have one of these you can actually use some trim nails and a hammer now when you're putting in your solid wood door what i like to do is at the bottom i like to put a shim in there because these doors are really heavy and they tend to go out of square if you put a shim in there and pull it up that way it's sitting nice and square then you just put it into position after you have the door set into where it's going to go you're going to take your shims and start shimming it plumb i like to go right by the hinges because that is where a lot of the weight is so i'm just going to set some in there now where the door knob is we're going to take we're going to shim this in to where it matches like at the top after you have the door all shimmed up you're gonna take your tape measure and make sure that your jamb is a half inch away from your studs the reason we go a half inch is because your drywall is going to butt right up to this jamb here and then you'll be able to install your trim right on top of that jam after you get it half inch away you're going to take your level and just make sure that you're sitting nice and plum if your door is not quite plump i'd rather push it away from the studs and get that plumb that way it's not opening and closing by itself it's just right then you can deal with the other later after you've gone through and checked several times to make sure you're half inch away or as close as possible and your plumb all the way around you can go ahead and nail it off i'm joshua clement flighty contractors and we just talked about how to install a solid wood door thanks for watching good luck with this project you
