i'm noreen and welcome to my kitchen and in this video i'm going to show you how you peel peaches for canning or for in my case peach butter today i'm going to start a pot of peach butter in my crock pot and i have some peaches that need to get used there's little brown spots on some of them but we're going to cut those out when it come when time comes but first thing we need to do is we need to take these beautiful peaches which are perfectly ripe and delicious and we need to peel them the easiest way to do that is using some boiling water which i have at a low simmer here and what you're going to need to do is you need to take your paring knife and you just need to cut a little x in the bottom and plop them in that hot water and they need to stay in there for like 45 seconds to a minute and you're going to do a few at a time and then what you want to have at the ready is a bowl of ice water so that you can give these an ice bath right as they come out of the boiling water or the simmering water and that's the last one i'm going to be able to fit in there there we go so those are going to sit for just 45 seconds to a minute and when they're you'll be able to tell when they're ready to come out because you'll start to see the where you cut the skin it'll start to peel back a little and you'll be able to take that out and when that's time to happen we'll come back and we'll show you what happens next okay we're ready to take these out i'll take this one as an example here you can see how this is kind of separated just a little bit that means time to take out into the ice water we're going to put it in here let it stay in there for a minute and then we're going to meet you back over at the counter where i will show you how easily these peels are just going to slip right off this is how you peel a peach after you've had it in the water it's just going to peel right off look at that you do with your fingers you can just use your hands like this you can use a paring knife this is the best way to peel peaches if you're going to peel um if you're going to prepare canned peaches and you want to put either i recommend if you're going to canned peaches that you slice them and you don't use halves because the halves they take up too much room and you actually waste i think a lot of space i think if i'm going to can peaches i want to get as many peaches in the jar as possible and if you find that you have a little blemish or something you can just cut it out like that see like here and you're ready to go you just put it in the bowl and you move on i'll do this one i started doing this one earlier you can see that the longer it sits in that ice water look how easy that is just comes right off they love that it's similar to how you do tomatoes but a peach skin is ever so slightly thicker than the tomatoes and sometimes you will find that if your peaches aren't extremely ripe that the skin likes to stick around a little so you might need to give it a little help and a little encouragement with a paring knife there you go that's how you peel peaches for canning i hope that helps and i hope you try it and i hope you love it and i hope this makes things a little bit easier for you when you get ready to can some peaches until next time i'll see ya you
