hey guys welcome to soapless today I'm going to show you how to make these really cute baby shoes on a personal note I'm actually pregnant with my first child so I'm excited to start making tons of little things for my baby so let me know in the comments below if there's anything you would like me to make a how-to video on now the supplies that you are going to need to make these baby shoes or first you're going to need a piece of fabric I just use some scrap fabric that I had laying around you don't need very much especially depending on what size you're doing if you're doing newborn you definitely don't need very much then you're gonna need a pattern and I just looked on Pinterest I found a pattern that was good for 0 to 6 months I'll put a link of that below but there are tons of patterns out there and you can find whatever one you want next you're going to need about an 8 inch piece of elastic depending on how tight you want the shoes to be and I had mine at eighth of an inch wide you could do an eighth of an inch or a quarter of an inch wide now let's get started making our baby shoes now once I have all my patterns cut out and ready to go I'm then ready to put them on my fabric and cut my fabric out so I'm doing mine on fleece you can new yours on whatever you would like on my patterns it says to cut two or four and that's more preference I'm going to cut four just so there's more padding and more comfort for the baby that wears them and it'll keep them more warm in the winter so now I'm ready to start pinning my patterns on do you have all your pieces cut out then I'm gonna take the upper pieces and I'm gonna separate them and I'll put two in one pile and two in the other and then I'm gonna put my right sides together and then I'm going to stitch all along here just along this straight edge I'm just gonna do a quarter inch seam now here I have both of my pieces and they're stitched together to the other piece and now what you're going to do is you're going to open that up and turn it so the wrong sides are together and match those edges and just press it flat with your fingers if you have an iron and your fabric can work with an iron then go ahead and now I'm ready to go over to my sewing oisin and that a quarter inch to half an inch you're gonna stitch in from that line and create some top stitching that'll go right along here and just clean that seam up and then you won't even be able to open it up to see those frayed edges that we just cut and stitched together so now we're just doing that top stitching right along there and I'll do that on both pieces after these pieces are sewn I'm ready to just set them off to the side now I'm ready to take my back heel inside pieces and separate them into groups of two so two pieces right here and two pieces right here and now I'm ready to take them and put them right sides together just like that and now I'm going to stitch right along this top line at a quarter inch just like we did our upper pieces I'm gonna do that right along here at a quarter of an inch with the pieces right side together and I'm gonna do that to both pieces now once I have these back heel and side pieces done I'm done ready to take my elastic and I cut mine in four inches but some people like I'm a little looser some people like them a little tighter so it might just depend on your baby so first I'm gonna pin it so that the ends match up together and then I'll go over to my sewing machine and I'm gonna stitch it down using a zig-zag stitch I'll stretch the elastic as I sew and use a zig-zag stitch to go over it so first let's pin it and now I can move over to the sewing machine and sew the elastic down and I'm gonna do this to both pieces now once I'm over at my sewing machine I'm going to set it to a zig-zag stitch and I'll put my needle down right on my elastic and remember the elastic is on the inside of that stitching that we made earlier so you won't even be able to see this new stitching that we'll be making so now I'm ready to just start sewing that's exact I'll take a few stitches at first to secure the elastic and then and as I'm sewing I'm holding the back with my left hand and the front I'm holding with my right hand and I'm stretching that elastic if I wasn't holding it it would look like that and it would just curl up and it wouldn't be laying flat so I'm just making sure with my right hand that it's being stretched and I'll just so long now when you're done sewing your piece will look a little like this and it will be curling in on itself and that is exactly what we want so now what we're going to do is we're gonna open up our two pieces that are sewn together and flip them so that the wrong sides are together now to make this next step a little bit easier I'm gonna use my pins but you don't have to you could just eyeball it I'm gonna take my pins and just make sure that those wrong sides are staying together and lain nicely and I'll just pin right along where I just put that elastic in so I can feel it right in here on the inside now I'm gonna go over to my sewing machine again and I'm gonna do a top stitch just like we did on our upper piece on this one how we close that seam in I'm gonna do that same thing over here about at a quarter of an inch to about half an inch right along that edge Sall and close that elastic that we just put in and I'm also gonna go all the way around on my edges just to make sure they stay together and it looks clean and nice now with the back pieces done I'm ready to focus on the slow pieces for now so I'm going to take two of the sole pieces and place them wrong sides together and I'm going to do the same with the other two pieces and now I'm ready I'm going to take them both over to my sewing machine and I'm gonna do a basting stitch all the way around the sole and a basting stitch is just a really long stitch that you can take out later and we're just doing this so that the pieces stay together so I'm just going to do that at about 1/4 of an inch in all the way around both soles once my soles are based in then I'm going to take my upper pieces that I set aside earlier and I'm going to pin them to the soles now you're gonna want to make sure you know where the top and bottom of this hole is so if you want to go back to your pattern you can just check it out and then I'm gonna fold the sole in half and find we're the center at the top is and the center at the bottom is and the center at the top I'm going to match with the center of the upper piece so I can fold that piece in half find that Center which is right there so I'll mark it with a pin and then if I come over to my shoe find the top make sure it isn't bunching mine's bunching a little from the basing stitches so make sure yours doesn't do that and fold it in half and then I can mark that Center at the top so I just found the middle on both pieces and now I can mark my pins up and I'll put another pin through there and now I can go and match my edges all the way around and the middle will bunch up a little bit that's okay because that's where the baby's foot is going to go so now I'm ready to go over to my sewing machine and with a regular stitch make sure you're not on basting anymore I'm in a stitch from this end all the way around to the other end and I am going to back stitch at the beginning in the end to make sure that that's really secure once you've sewn on this upper piece you'll then have something that looks like this it kind of looks like a little baby slipper which i think is just adorable but it wouldn't stay on their feet so now we need to add the back piece and we're pretty much gonna do it the exact same way that we did this piece so I'm gonna find the back middle so again fold it in half grab a pin and put that right in the middle then I'll find the middle of my back heel inside piece and I'm notching the bottom edge not where we put the elastic in so if you want to put your PIN there and now I can just go and match those pins up then I will just take this flap and pin it down around the backside of the shoe now I'm ready to go over to my machine and stitch that down at a quarter of an inch as well now once you're done sewing the back piece on you'll have something that looks like this kind of an odd looking shoe but first before we turn this shoe right-side out we're gonna grade the edges and grading is just cutting the layers of fabric that you caught in your seams so that way there's not as much bulk so I'm just gonna do that all the way around my edges so that way the little feet of the baby can fan there after grading the edges the last thing that we need to do to finish off the shoe is to tack these edges down now I'm just gonna hand tack them down you could use your machine but I want to make sure that it lines up right here with the top stitching we did earlier so I'm just gonna hand tack it on fleece it's harder to see the previous stitching that we've already done so that's why I'm gonna do that but if you want to try it on your machine go for it so here I have my needle and my thread and I'm just gonna take a stitch from the flap that's moving around and I'll pull my needle through and then I'm gonna line it up with the top stitching we did earlier so just make sure it lays nicely and it'll still curl around nicely in the back so I'll line that up and then come underneath and take a little chunk right where that same stitching is and pull through and you'll notice if you look on the inside that I didn't make it so you can see it on the other side if you can then you went too far into your fabric so just make sure you're just taking a little chunk and not going all the way through so then I can pull that tight and then I'm just going to go back and forth between the two fabrics taking a little chunk at a time and making sure they go together now I can cut my threads and then just tie them off and make a knot so that that is secure and that way that flap will just stay there and I will do the same exact thing on the other side just making sure it lines up nicely now once you are all done tacking both of your edges down you can then turn your shoe right side out and now you are all finished with your baby shoes thanks for watching this video guys I hope you enjoyed it make sure to leave any comments below of any videos you would like to see and make sure to like and to subscribe and I will see you guys next time bye
