Please explain how to sharpen a metal chisel

hello viewers for diyers here back with a tutorial video for everyone now this particular video here i'll be showing you how to sharpen a chisel now what can happen over time if you are using the chisel you'll notice the ends do kind of mushroom over they do wear out over time this one is still in pretty good shape but i'll do a demonstration on how to resharpen your chisel if it's needed to be now we'll be using for this task here is a standard bench grinder now if you may notice here this is a rather large chisel and you can see when just holding it up to the wheel here it's almost exactly the same width as the wheel but what we'll be doing here for this procedure is when sharpening these chisel you always want to maintain a 60 degree angle towards the tip here now that ensures that the dip tip is durable but it is also sharp enough where it is going to be able to do the job now if you go any more sharper of a tip what can happen this can wear out over time won't be as durable now if you go any shallower of a tip obviously it won't do its job either now when sharpening this here we want to use one hand on the front side here just to hold in place and what we'll do is we'll move it back and forth because that ensures even wear on the wheel and it also ensures that we don't have any edges on the outside here even if we do try to eyeball it here to center it up that doesn't guarantee it so we'll just move it back and forth to ensure that the surface is nicely ground down and again i also have a hand on the back side here just to control that angle there so when i am moving it back and forth it does ensure that i am doing a proper cut now when i was sharping this i was also going on an angle such as this towards the wheel what this does is this pulls the material away from the chisel tip so it doesn't give us a falsify tip now you want to ensure that tip is centered up just continuing to flip it around every so often to ensure everything is done correctly and once you've done you should be left with a final product that looks like this so this concludes the rest of my tutorial video if you have any comments or questions please don't hesitate to post them below also please subscribe to my channel and like my video thank you for watching
