hi this is Eric Robert from glass etching secrets column I just want to show you real quick how you can cut a glass bottle such as this wine bottle and turn it into a usable cup and also talked a little bit about the glass cutting station I have and how you can make one too now I've got this idea from some of the other videos I saw online but I just want to show you some of the other tips that helped me when I made lon so basically all you have to do is you have to get some type of wheels and there's a few different types of wheels you can get in the hardware store but I like this solution because it already has its bracket and you can just screw it into a board and these are about three dollars a wheel so that's about nine dollars for that and then you have to have a back bracket so the bottle can rest up against it and prevents it from moving and then you have another bracket that holds the cutter and my suggestion for this is to get a very thick bracket because I did use this thinner one and it was it was moving too much when I was cutting so it was messing up the line and you need your lines very straight so this bracket what you have to do though is cut it at an angle so it doesn't hit the bottle so that's that hopefully I'm going to get some plans together and I'll show you this a little bit better how you can make one yourself and then all you do is you can if you want to reuse your cutter you can just use the vice grips and grip it on there and then you can take it off when you want to cut straight glass also and what I recommend is get a good glass cutter if you plan on doing this a decent amount just by just invest in a really good one because you'll be happy you did okay anyway so if to cut it all you do is you place your glass bottle in here and then you just have to score it lightly so you just turn it while scoring it and this will cut it here and that's all you have to do you score it and now what everyone's been saying and I've tried this many times it's the best way to do it is to run hot water over this and then let it heat up and then pour cold water over right after and they will fall right off so I'm going to go to my sinker and I'll show you that okay I'm over about the sink and I'm heating up some hot water and I recommend you have boiling water and all what you do is you pour it over and you want to do this for at least 30 seconds make sure it gets nice and hot then around cold water right after sometimes it will fall off sometimes you can pull it a little bit that falls right off and that's all it is it's not perfect here as you can see but this is a one of the first five or ten tests I've done so when that's done you want to sand the edge so if you actually do use it for drinking that you don't cut yourself but it's actually not that sharp it's just you want a little bit smoother so that's it okay I'm back now I stand the edge you can see it's a lot smoother and if you recall I hit a little bump and one of it I leveled that down with some some I think it was about sixty grit sandpaper I use the same than the bump down and I use real fine sandpaper about a horn twenty grit to smooth it out okay now I just want to present to you another idea of decorating your cut glass and that's of a way of action logo on to the glass and that's what I work with a lot and I'll just kind of share some of the details about that so basically all you have to do is you have to create some kind of stencil and apply it to the glass and then either use cream or sandblasting to engrave it you can also use a rotary engraver if you wanted to so I got this stencil so I just basically just want to line it up and this is a pre-cut stencil I made so you can make personalized glasses and smooth that over take out the transfer tape we also call it application tape and then you have to weed all these areas that I cut and I'm going to fast forward it this part you want to watch it okay there it is now I'm going to go to pause the video I'm going to Exodus and I'll share the hand the result so them back from X in the bottle you can see it's all engraved in and now we just want to remove the stencil so start peeling we'll take off and you start pulling the stencil off and there you go you just want to clean that up and wash all the dust off and that's all um yeah if you want to check out my website I I'll show you how to do all this type of stuff I'll I do stenciling and everything I'd had with a budget and I also try to get up those plans of how to make your own glass cutter so I just looked a little the video here and I might have a link so you can go download that thanks for watching if you got any questions leave a comment below you
