Please explain how to use european plugs in the uk safely, and european to uk adaptors explained. a beginners guide

all right so I've been doing a bit of DIY recently and for my projects I needed to buy one of these electric Sanders so I went online and shopped around and got the cheapest one on a European website and when it arrived no surprise it had a European plug on it now one of these European plugins we won't fit into a UK socket we require a plug looks a bit like this there with three pins on it now you can always just cut this sir European plug off and put a UK one on but it's no my problems with that you know not knowing how to wire a plug plus it could even validate warranties and it can be able to lit fiddling in some cases just adding a new plug can be the easiest option on-screen now you can just see an example of when I've done that so I had a couple of other European plugs lying about in addition to my sander so I thought in this video I'm going to show you how I plug them in safely in the UK I hope I'm going to cover most types of European plug what you'll get in the UK on products that you buy and things like that AB obviously I won't cover everything so just use your common sense if you don't know just gone to Google and look I'll cover more things in this video hopefully ok so what you can see on screen now with the kinds of plugs you'll get on appliances that are wired in there's a small one I'm holding up here a bigger one with an earth plug and a bigger one without an earth plug you'll find them on the appliances do you know that you buy online also I'll be talking about the kind that come attached to mobile phones or the USB plug things like that I'll also be talking about appliances and devices with politically attached to them things like battery charges and nightlight ok so many of you'll be familiar with what this is it's the plug that you'd use if you're going abroad to convert your UK plug into your European plug many people don't know you can actually get plugs in the UK to convert European plugs into UK plugged okay so these adapters aren't be confused with voltage converters or inverters the kind of thing you'd use if you were using certain US appliances in the UK they change the voltage this is only changing the style of the plug ok so this is a selection of the adapters available and these are be the ones I'll be talking about in the video you can see quite a variety of it up alright so the first thing I want to talk about is an adapter you shouldn't use now this is the kind that you'd get when you buy appliances from China where the foreign plugs on you really don't want to use this one it's got no fuse on and you need that in the UK because all the wiring is done also this one has really exposed contacts inside really used to electrocute yourself and it's just not safe at all if I got an appliance with one of these adapters I'd throw it straight in the bed what I would recommend you using is something like this now this kind of plug has a shutters over the contacts it also has a fuse on which makes it much safer ok so here's a quick comparison between the safe plug in the unsafe plug now you see the unsafe hood you can easily just put a screw in them are a child's finger or something like that and get electrocuted really nasty you don't want to be using that okay so here's the safer one now what you can see with this one is that you can't get the screw in you can't get any object in there because it's got the shutters on that prevent anything entering other than a plug this is much safer option now those are the two plugs were suitable for low voltage appliances things that don't need to be earth but for something needs to be with the European plug you'd need to use one like this you can see the side has got little contacts at Earth the device okay so in the UK all plugs have to have an earth pin most sockets won't work with a plug didn't have an earth pin but many European plugs like this one don't have a earth pin on them some do in some de for these the first two adapters I showed you they can be used without an earth pin fairly safely but some appliances have an earth and they will physically fit into those plugs but they aren't safe if any of you have anything goes wrong in the device you would want an earth pin just make sure you okay so all these plugs to plug in now perfectly safe to plug into this adaptor as you can see on this plug there is no earth pin on it it's only got the live and the neutral pin so that's safe to plug into this adaptor as is Noah this little USB and up for as well this is perfectly safe there's only got two pins so it's nice and safe now this larger plug here it has two pins but it does require an Earthman so this is very unsafe what you can see on screen now you should never do this because this device isn't earth now if I just pull it forward you can see I'm just pointing to here the earthing strips on either side plus the earthing panel as well that needs to be in contact with ground otherwise the plug can be unsafe okay so with this larger plug you'd want to use a plug like this one that you can see it's got the earth pins on either side this is perfectly safe to plug this plug in because you see the earth bars on the side and the other strips that are contacting with the earth strips in the socket and that's perfectly safe now I showed you earlier these converter type plugs they're quite simple they just plug in like this exactly like a normal plug they're very easy to install as well you just place the European plug inside the adapter close the door down screw it up it's very simple to do and then you can use the plug as normal you may have noticed many manufacturers that these plugs to a European device is in order to sell them in the UK CA can find these adapters quite cheap online particularly eBay and Amazon other ILI's to fit I would definitely recommend them the big advantage of these plugs is just how simple they are to plug in exactly like a normal plug although they can be a bit bigger so bad I mine know there are many people online that tell you to just try and shove European plugs into UK sockets and yes in some cases they will fit but it is dangerous do not do it you will get electrocuted and you will post many electric devices you get now charged by a USB and as such come with a USB power adapter some cases you can get foreign USB power adapters these can be quite useful and I'll get onto that later but my recommendation for these is just use a UK one the much easier and much better you know you could plug them in to adapters and things like that but it's not really worth it the bulk Ian you what fitting your bag so I'd recommend just use a UK plug but don't throw them away why not just pop them in the suitcase when you go on holiday there might be an extra socket in the room or something so you can plug them in there okay so here's the main reason you should just use UK plugs because you see the much smaller a lot much better and the more you're much better or way around if you use adapters with these with these converters they're not fake Gord a bit bulky I mean just look at this it's huge you know you don't be doing that okay so here's another quick tip for you many things you get like night lights and battery charges it can have plugs fitted to them now if you've got one of these with the European plug in many cases if you shop online you can find adapters are actually fit to the device like you see this Duracell battery charger I've got here you can just buy a little UK plug to attach to it and then just plug it up straight into the UK socket so in most cases I'd recommend you use an adapter but if you had to put an old plug like this I would recommend that you cut it off because it's possible that at the plug can be inserted halfway and the pins aren't quite connected in but you could get an electric shock so this clips bit out of focus but as you can see this plug now is connected at to the converter but there is still a bit of metal of the pins showing a new couple screwing at a nasty electric shock so I would want the hardly so I recommend you convert those plugs by check I cutting the lead off and fitting a new plug also old plugs are unlikely to fit into all these other adapters and things so it's probably good idea to change them if you lead for something like a PC Tara something like that you probably have one these IEC figure-of-eight Azmi like cables in medicated with these it's just easy to buy a UK one I'll just use the UK well most people have them line about here's an example of one of my you carries I just use that so for the sandals in this clip by the way I am forgot to fill in earlier I sort of had to film it here quickly without a tripod so in the end I use this adapter to change my sander over to a UK plug I thought it will be the best since I had word lying around see obviously I'm not a qualified electrician so anything on that phone you'll want to consult one of those I'm say I'm not responsible if you electrocute yourself because of something you've seen in this video but I'm sure you will anyway thank you for watching I really do appreciate it and I hope you have a nice day
