hello I'd like to show you how we made some simple blinds for our conservatory roof we soon found after having our Southeastern facing conservatory built that it got unbearably hot in summer despite investing in tinted solar reflecting roof glass having checked out the cost of commercially available blinds we decided to make our own we took some photos of the roof from inside the conservatory to try and get some idea what different shapes would look like we came up with the sale shakes shown one for the east side and two for the south we then produced some measurements and check that they were correct by cutting the shapes out of some old bed sheets and trying them for size after buying some cream canvas and some eyelets from our local Danelle we cut the sails out allowing for a half inch hem all around my wife then sewed these hems on a sewing machine and we hammered the eyelets into each corner if we were to do this again we might allow for a bit of shrinkage as the blinds did shrink a few percent when they were taken down and washed after the first sermon we fixed the corners of the blinds using some nylon cord tying them to the top of the bracket carrying the wall ties and two little wire Clips we made to fasten to the ends of the ceiling plates at the bottom of the roof glass these blinds take 15 minutes to put up each may in ten minutes to take down in October this allows maximum lighting during the autumn and winter months when we still use the room on sunny days they look quite stylish in a rustic kinda way and cost exactly 13 pounds to make all three give it a try and see what you think you'll be surprised how good they look you have very little to lose and could save yourselves a lot
