alright guys welcome back to the daily drift so today I'm gonna show you how to go from your old busted up slave cylinder on your BMW e36 to a brand new one and yes it is a pain in the ass so get ready so guys when you're going to replace your ether t6 master cylinder it's in a really bad spot it's mounted up underneath the pedal and it's a pain in the butt so be prepared this is gonna suck this one here this is a new one the fittings don't exactly line up like this one had a little clip and this one didn't and all kinds of weird stuff that's going on so let's go ahead and get started and see what all it takes to get this thing on there okay first step remove these two screws here then remove these three nuts with a ten millimeter socket next remove the two clips on top and the one on the bottom okay so for this part it's just gonna take a lot of wiggling the idea is you want to slide it off to the left and you're gonna have to undo the spring and just kind of mess around with it until the parts start coming off like they need to and it'll eventually pop off it just takes a lot of manipulation next just unbolt the two bolts that hold the master cylinder to the car next what I find useful is taking aluminum foil and turning it into a makeshift drip pan this will help prevent any fluid from getting on your carpet next all we do is take a screwdriver or pick or whatever you want and pry off the little clip that holds the return hose on the top of the master cylinder then just slightly pull the master cylinder out from the firewall so that way you can expose the last clip we need to get to be careful because this thing will probably leak all over the place this is what the little clip looks like you're just gonna need like a pic or something to get in there to pop it up placing some rags down just as extra precaution because the last thing I want is hydraulic fluid all over my floor just slide the pic in there and pry up boom no one that easy now your master cylinder should just slide right off now we just gotta pry off the hose from the reservoir boom now we can go pull it through the firewall justice hi Billy Mays here okay so guys so right here I have the thing set up in a vise so it's gonna be easier because this piece here like when it comes it's very very difficult to get in because you could see like it's a very small hole and I just found it's easier to do outside the car so I pulled this line so that way it's easier to do and we're gonna just basically push it in through there and set it up so we can get it back on the car so let's do it so you can see that it's on there and it's not going anywhere it's nice and tight and then we'll just take this little clip here the old one had a place for it to snap this doesn't have a snap but we're just gonna secure it on there all right so that's that okay so guys we finally got them both out and I wanted to show you the difference between the two so on this one here you can see that there's a little clip and that clip is where these pieces go this hose will connect to you can see on this one it doesn't have the spots for it and this is the BEC only one got it off at Amazon this is like the one you get it like a autozone or something like that this one's f AG or well I'm not going to say it but you already know yeah I don't know they really need to come with a better branding for this but anyway these guys they they made a decent one I'm assuming this is the stock one and this is the aftermarket one this one's all plastic and this one's like steel and then like a plastic piece down here so it seems to be okay we'll see how it lasts and then this hose of course is kind of a pain in the butt but you can get this hose at any place parts store stuff like that it's not that bad so I'm gonna go ahead and finish putting this on and we'll go from there okay so next what you want to do is you want to slide your master cylinder over the hose and wiggle it on get it all the way on there once you have it on take your clip and press it in and then give it a good tug just to make sure that it doesn't come off and then we should be good and then what we got to do is run this hose back up through these this area here and we're just gonna have to do this by feel so guys what I had to do to get this back on here is I use these nifty tools here these are spark plug boot pullers and they work really well for this so I was able to dig under here because to get this hose out you have to like reach in there and like really really try really hard to get that out and it's a pain in the neck but with these pliers I was able to reach down there and grab it and then even grab the hose itself and hook it into this thing and I just wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle and pull up and it does it just fine and you'll see that it's not really all that bad it's on there just like it was when it was stuck so oh yeah then you guys can see my ingenious plan how it worked and I didn't get anything in there so yeah be sure to use one of these it comes in handy cheap aluminum foil and it's super effective the next step we got these bolts we got to run through we got to the bolt and the nut and we'll just put them in there to get this bolted up over there yeah nut that nut is gonna go up and that's where your top nut for the slave is gonna go and the master okay guys so I got the clutch pedal out now that we got the master cylinder before we put this in I want to address these bushings so these bushings are not they're not really good but I didn't really have any issues with the pedal before I you know I mean I was having more problems than the pedal and if I was more patient I would order the solid bushings for it but I'm impatient it's really easy to take on and off but we're gonna take these bushings out and clean them and just get them all nice and set up properly so that way well you know it's one less little thing that we got to worry about we're just gonna Lube everything up real good so we don't have any squeaks or wobbles or anything like that so let's do it okay so you're looking these are the bushings that I was talking about they just slide out they're plastic they're slotted you can tell they're pretty worn so we're gonna clean these out and then we're gonna put some grease on them and redo them because these things are just they're just crap you can see how worn these things are pretty crazy yeah this Springs pretty rusty for some reason but whatever we're just gonna go with it okay so now we're gonna take some white lithium grease and just grease up all these little joints the bushings the pins we're just gonna fill it up with all this crap so that way we don't have any squeaks because the last thing that we want is a squeaky clutch pedal so guys I want to show you a trick and basically what I do is I put these zip ties in between the spring before I put it in the vise and that's gonna make it easier and then once I have it compressed I'm just gonna tighten it down and these are gonna be like ghetto spring compressors right this should make it easier to get back into the car so we're gonna set it in here and just compress it but be careful because it can be under tension so these things are not safe like this set this down that down make sure it's nice and tight and it should hold hopefully yeah so now that's under tension but it's smaller than what it was so it should be easier to put in it's pretty nifty so here's the order of the spring it's gonna be that little lever the spring right there and this little cap ER thing and we're just gonna have to force it in there to get it to lock so it's gonna be a pain in the butt but we'll be able to do it okay guys so this thing is a total pain in the dick so to get this on I had to do the zip tie trick and it goes in here okay so as you can see there's two little clips where this can go there's this middle upper point up here and then this is the spot where it goes there's a little metal retainer that goes in there but I learned don't do this till you do it last because getting this in is a total son-of-a-bitch where the master cylinder is you have to like work around this cuz there's a stopper on the back of that and you have to basically get the pin in there and it's a pain in the butt but what I found is undo the very top one and then you can get to this middle one and just you have to like pull it off to the side a little bit wiggle it and eventually it'll go in and then you could slide the whole assembly on clip the top two clips and then do the spraying trick by compressing it with zip ties and it works so now we just got to go and move on to the slave okay guys so here we've got the clutch line going to the slave cylinder and what we're gonna do is we're going to secure one end with a 17 and I believe it's an 11 on top all right and now I got it so now we're just going to this until we get this hose out okay there we go boom so you can see why this is a pain in the ass if you were to try to do this like say if you tried doing this with the transmission in here this would be a pain in the ass so I'm doing it just because I have access and it's easy and this hose is like really messed up so it's worth replacing right now okay so here we have the old slave cylinder and you can see it's just all tore up and nasty and everything's all messed up this hose is all screwed up covered in dirt and oil you can tell that the seals pretty much busted on this thing it's it's just nasty it's not good and then here we have the new one and this new one is gorgeous it's beautiful you see that it's beautiful got this nice new hose it's gonna be awesome so we're gonna take this we're gonna basically transfer the parts from the old one to the new one okay so I've transferred the hard lines from the old one to the new one and this is what we call the CD be the clutch delay valve and it's terrible so let's get it off of this piece of junk so what you want to do is take your fourteen millimeter wrench I've got the other part in the vial he's gonna undo it and I am okay so we got this back together careful with these lines make sure that you get them in there 100% but you can see here we got rid of that CDC valve and it fits in between here it's a little bit of space now there's a little gap but that's okay it's on there tight all we did was secure it with the vise so it's on there it's nice it's solid we got a new line this thing's all beat to hell you can see it was leaking in here like it's just terrible so we got rid of that we got this brand new unit new hose let's go put this back on the car and we'll go do that all right so we got this so all we're gonna do just put this through here and we're just gonna tighten this thing back on there oh alright Pete okay so that's on there now what I gotta do is I'm gonna spray this off so that way when we put new fluid in we'll be able to tell if any of these points are leaking because we don't want to leak and then we'll work on bleeding the clutch so the slave so let's do it so guys here's the trick we're gonna use one of these it's a pistol grip oil thingamabob or you can see it's just a generic I picked it up at O'Reilly for like 10 bucks we're gonna fill this up with some brake fluid and we're gonna reverse pump it into our slave and that's gonna basically bleed all the air out I'll show you how to do it it's real simple we're gonna attach it to the slave cylinder and then we're just gonna pump pump pump pump pump until we get it all the way out we get all the air out and it's gonna probably overflow her reservoir to be honest I don't know we'll see what happens all right so now we're gonna go in here just make sure this is popped off when this is popped off we'll be good it's probably gonna overflow but we'll see what happens okay guys so this is kind of tricky but what you got to do is we're gonna loosen this thing up okay so that's gonna let air in right then we're gonna take this little doohickey here it's got this nice little tip on it right and we're gonna shove it in there as best we can again it is tight in there as we possibly can okay we want to create a seal but we want the valve open so as we do that now we have a good seal and then what we're gonna do is we're gonna slowly start pumping this in there and this is basically gonna help push all this up almost there guys almost be sure to tighten down the valve before you remove the line from the pump that way you don't let any air in well guys that's how you change your master cylinder your slave cylinder and bleed the fluid you may have a little bit of difficulty with it like I did but eventually it'll get through there and it'll work normally what you would do that would make it easier is if it was bolted up to the transmission before you unhook your slave cylinders you pump that pedal a lot just to get most that fluid prepped and then you just do the basic procedure you squeeze unlock drain the fluid lock and repeat until you get just pure fluid and then you're good it really should work you're gonna need another person to help you out yeah it shouldn't be that bad I'll be able to finish mine up once I get the transmission back in which will hopefully be the next like day yourself we'll see so I hope you guys enjoy this video and if you did be sure to hit that subscribe button if you haven't already and I'll see you all in the next one
