oh all right it's called Chavez picking because of Merle Travis and today we're gonna break it down all right here's a really cool finger style for your guitar that you can play in a lot of different ways a lot of different keys and this is just the foundation this is just going to get you going but with this you can kind of maybe break out of your picking shell and add a little diversity to your guitar playing all right so stay tuned follow me pay attention we're going on a journey come on in all right here we go let's break it down Travis speaking so the very first thing you need to know is we have palm muting but only for our bass notes all right you don't want your bass notes to ring out you want it to sound little fleshy chunky so the very first thing we're going to do is spread that g chord put your palm right next to the bridge and I want you to balance from that low E string to the D string when you're watching TV when you're home alone when you're in between songs when you're practicing your skills you should make this and exercise because that's the metronome that's the foundation that's that's going to be everything you need to be a successful picker chives bigger okay so I practiced that until you get it and then we're going to start to add the embellishments the hot stuffs the ornamentation if you will okay so the next step we wanted to get some that sounds like this and to do that on our first base note on the one beat of our first measure of her spark we're going to pinch both east rings or if you want you could pinch the E and the IE NV for a fuller sound and it's gonna go from there to the base just practice that okay now we're really close after your second base hit that one right there you're gonna play the B string again so really slow that's gonna be in between on a 1 & 2 and that 2 and is where you want that note 1 2 & 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 & 3 4 1 2 & 3 4 1 2 n 3 for all right so that cycle 1 2 3 4 4 base notes is one measure that's one measure and that's when we're going to switch now on the see I'm plucking obviously the bass note on the a string but I'm looking to being the key like I did with the last chord same kind of thing my bass strings for this one are the a and the D so I'm going to go pinch d string B string bass bass one two and three four one two and three four let's put those two course together what happens next all right we're going to the D chord you're okay now for the D I'm playing the same bass notes as the C so technically this is an a over D or it's an inverted chord it's an inverted chord well that's okay it's gonna sound okay just play the exact same pattern you did for the C one two three four okay now some tips this is a very basic intro okay you can do a lot more embellishing than what I'm teaching you today I just want to get you started with the bass note and the ideas but one last quick idea before I go this is one two and three four but on the last D I'm gonna go one two and three more you don't need a whole measure for a chord so check it out okay and that's it if you like the style check out Merle Travis check out John Prine a lot of old British folk guys there's a lot of guys that do this style okay and you can really really really mix it up if you want try to play with your capo go higher on the fret some songs in you strong try I'm trying to play them in this style as well too okay all right enjoy I hope it helped you okay that was it easy fun and now your guitar playing is much more diversified okay this is really going to take you to the next level keep on practicing it like I had with some of those tips get the bass line down first while you're watching TV hopefully your girlfriend your wife your boyfriend your husband your child because you know your dog won't want to kill you but that's what the Pamyu comes before all right so keep on rockin in the free world all right
