Please explain how to deal with hollyhock disease

today we are talking about hollyhock rust hi this is leslie beal with the art of gardening and we just had another four inch to five inch all day rain the other day and about a week ago i noticed hollyhock rust coming on it looks like this see the yellow dots and i've got a whole bag of it right here i've been pulling off this is an example of hollyhock rust now when you see this you want to just pull them off i've got a whole bag and i did this about a week ago before i had any blooms and now i've been having the real pretty balloons come on so what you want to do is you want to get any and all leaves off that you can i practically strip these but that's okay i've had other leaves that come on and why does this happen well there is uh spores that come in the air or from watering above it could be in the rain we had so much rain any debris on the ground especially if it has the hollyhock rust in the debris and it's falling off so i have completely done an entire bag here in other weeds and anytime you see hollyhock rust you want to not just pick it off and leave it you want to dispose of it now you may have to have taken off a lot of your leaves but it looks better than leaving these awful leaves and they'll end up turning brown it's pretty bad right now today here's some more i need to take off and it will even start on smaller my smaller ones that are coming up the grass is getting bad out here too here's an example of one right here so we're just going to pop that off right the stem in fact it's trying it's it's actually putting out new that's where it's actually stripped it well right there as you can tell is another new bud coming on it it reforms so it's best to just get rid of this take these off put them over in the bag tie it up and get rid of it that's the best thing you can do and don't over walk water up from above and i'm going all natural but i did have some oh fungicide all-natural fun fungicide that i had left over from some other year and i sprayed it and that seemed to help but then we had this other rain and all of a sudden we here i am again but just remember your hollyhocks will make it just tend to them every day especially after rain trying to water them from below keep all debris out of the way and you can't help it if some something comes windborn you just have to kind of help them out and then meanwhile just enjoy those beautiful blues i love hollyhocks this is leslie beal signing out for today
