Please explain how to sharpen and balance lawn mower blades

hey guys today I'm going to show you how you sharpen your lawnmower blades if you look underneath the deck of the lawnmower right now sorry about my camera work you'll see the blade here this is a this is a 38 inch cut deck here but that general things the same when homers the blade brakes don't work on this one what you do you first let's see a bolt on the bottom take it loose loose hold your hold your blade be careful that you don't cut your fingers so they can be sharp just loosen this bolt or later it drop right off the quill assembly and also while your dad here doing this it's a good time to check your plane your quill sembly see how the bearings are wearing you can see you can wiggle it a lot which means the bearings are slowly going out on the quill sembly or spindle assembly whatever you want like I said disability have brakes like they always wear out so fast I don't think we'll of putting them back one also the adapter that's your bladed Decker them two bolts are if they always break if you look right there to the crank in there and you can buy a brand new one to put on there and after you cut for half an iris when we broke again so especially if you hit roots or rocks or anything like that it's okay here's the blade after I pulled it off so people said trying to wash myself in the camera you can see that blood after you broke I'll never replace move it's past two if you want to but they just break so often there's really not much point but to replace it you just take this nut and just pull it off right here both of them both sides and it'll come off and mold another one okay now this is your cutting edge of the blade sorry I'm off camera there again now you don't want this razor sharp like a knife but you don't want it dull either the reason you don't want to raise your sharp is actually you start cutting grass they'll start getting dings in there and start flattening out then it's going to be worse before you try to sharpen it so I'll show you what what kind of edge you want okay now we're gonna get ready to start grinding here short from all you need is a grinder they don't really matter what type it could be a bench grinder like this or your handheld grinder or grinder attachment for electric drilling and I just always use the regular old bench grinder and also know if the wheels worn out and this one it should be pretty close to this plate right here also when you're doing any type of the grinder grinding work be sure you have a pair of safety glasses aren't because you do know what metal particles in the drive also meant to mention you need one of these blade balancers so you get your blades balanced now we're gonna start the grinding I got my [Applause] hopefully watching fingers you don't want to get involved in there okay now I'll get this that almost on the other side [Applause] see it's not like a my plate with a little sharp that's actually too short now I got a buildup [Applause] just about right and they did a close-up shot so you can see what looks like okay after a couple passes on the grinder this is about what it should look like and if you run your finger over here and the cats to catch it you got it to sharp that's about what you want right there now you can we're going to do the same thing on this side here also if this is a new wheel I wouldn't have to bowl down a table I can just hold it out like this [Applause] the other side here and just about the same as the other one now we're going to bounce um okay now you want to find a level surface and my work mansion is fairly level you wanna set your blade down here just like this make sure it gets on there real good and then see if it leans off to one side any you see this side over here is coming down that means I got to grind just a little tiny more off it that way both sides way the same if you don't get them balanced they can wear out your quilt sembly bearings more okay you see how it leaned off to one side this was the heavy side so I'm going to grind just a little tiny hair probably all these alright I got back on the balancer after grinding down at one side it's not perfect but it's close enough for me alright here it is after it's done now you ready put these back cord make sure you put a little dab of grease inside here put it back on there stick your bolt back in it you're ready to cut grass hope this video helped y'all got any questions leave me a comment down there underneath the video I'll get back to you soon as I can alrighty thanks for watching guys catch y'all later thanks for subscribing to
