Please explain how to brew super aerated compost tea

you hello my name is Lynne Gillespie and I will be your guide to discover the 12 high-performance garden characteristics with weekly training videos a high performance gardener is one of the most fun productive and organic gardening experiences you will ever have the garden that is enjoyable weed free productive and so very easy to achieve so today we're going to talk about compost tea we're actually going to brew a batch it's great to have compost tea around if you have a plant that is look sick our little weekly you can give it some compost tea will also water the garden with it about once a month compost tea is great because you can bubble out the microbes into the water then water that on to your plants and the microbes go right down into the root zone and so they get right around the roots really quickly the other thing that you can do with it is you can actually put it in a sprayer and you can spray the leaves of your plants to help keep the bad fungi and the bad bacteria from attaching to the leaves so there's a lot of good uses for compost tea so I wanted to show you how to brew that so that you would have some right away if you needed any you can make it with your worms that you buy or compost that you buy or compost that you make so today we are going to use compost that we made we keep a big mountain a compost all year round so we always have access to it okay so the parts that you need is you need a five gallon bucket this is filled about four gallons of water usually the water at your house is chlorinated and the chlorine will kill your microbes so what you want to do is to bubble your water for about two hours to get the chlorine to evaporate out what I have here is this is a fish tank bubbler and it's got two air outlets on it and on those I have two air stones and this whole setup cost me about 20 bucks it's not expensive at all so you're going to take your two air stones you're going to drop them in the bottom and I have to have a rock to keep them down so I'm going to put the rock in here on the tubes hold my bubblers down to the bottom okay then we're going to take this plug it into our electrical source and you can see the bubbles starting to form and so we're just going to let that bubble for two hours while that'sa bubbling we are going to get our compost ready it takes four cups of compost for four or five gallons of water have my cup measure this is an old pantyhose I had to call my friends to get one because I don't wear pantyhose so kind of like a foreign object to me okay one cup I figure if you can't do it in blue jeans then it's probably not worth doing so pantyhose are off the list okay one more cup that is full okay I'm going to take and just tie a little Slipknot in the top because I'll probably want to reuse these pantyhose so I don't have to go to the store and buy any then I take a string and tie around here and just so I have a little control over it in the tank of water all farms have baling twine everywhere and you use it for everything so if you will need some baling twine just find a farmer and they will share with you okay that is ready to go when we look when we come back in two hours okay two hours later we've been bubbling getting all the chlorine out now it's time to add our other ingredients so the next thing that I want to put in here is some molasses molasses is this is an organic molasses and it's unsalted so you definitely want to unsalted molasses the molasses feeds the microbes it makes them multiply and it also makes the brew smell like cookies which is really fun so a couple tablespoons we also feed the molasses to our sheep after they've had a birth we go through a lot of molasses at our house not to mention the cookies that we do make okay a couple tablespoons of molasses mmm smells good already okay I'm going to add our our compass bag goes right down in there I leave the string hanging out in case it disappears I can grab it okay so we're going to brew this for 48 hours it needs to be at room temperature and if there has been any worms in your compost then you can expect some foaming from the worm protein so sometimes this will get a head on it like this and run over on the floor so that's why we're in on the cement floor you've got it out of direct sunlight okay we will see you back in two days okay here we are 48 hours later we've boot our tea and now it's time to take it apart first thing I want to do is to go ahead and unplug the bubbler and I want to check the tea make sure that it's fresh yeah smells like cookies if it smells bad you don't want to use it it's our tea bag so all the microbes should be bubbled out of the compost and they should now be in my brew here my stones out we'll be washing those later a little cold my brick okay so now that we got our teeth we want to use this within four hours of taking the bubbler out or we can leave the bubbler in for three days but the sooner you use it the better so you want to put this in a plastic water can or plastic sprayer if you're going to spray it on your plants if you use anything with metal you can get some reaction to the compost so definitely stick with something plastic now you can use any amount on any plant at any time if you put too much on the microbes will just kind of die off and you'll get a balance of your microbes in your soil I would recommend probably one cup of this brewed tea for each plant like your tomato plant or your pepper plants if they're looking a little puny or we're going to put this on the lawn and what we're going to do is we're going to use it straight so we're going to put that in the water can and we're going to pick a bad spot on the wand and use this as a demonstration to show you that you can grow a great lawn without having to use any chemical fertilizers so let's take our compost and we'll go out to the one okay we are going to take our compost tea and put it out on this little plot on the lawn you can see I flagged it so we can keep track of how this is growing the noise in the background is my son's turkeys he's got about 20 Tom turkeys out here they're a heritage breed and they do like to chatter okay we're gallons of compost tea on the one okay we've made our compost tea now it's time for us to wash our equipment if you'll notice that the equipment gets a layer of it's called bacterial slime it's also the same thing you get in your mouth that's called plaque so in order to get the plaque off you got to get your toothbrush out and you got a brush we have to do a little scrubbing as well on on our buckets and our equipment to keep it clean so what we're going to use today is we got a half a gallon of water and we have half a cup of baking soda which you could use on your toothbrush if you wanted this is our little rock that holds down the air stones give it a little scrub okay our air stones okay we're going to take the material from our pantyhose leftover compost we're just going to put it on the lawn it'll just turn into nice earth okay and I'll flip this inside out and then get it rinsed out and then we'll be able to use the pantyhose again so good recycling nothing like doing your laundry okay your string and our buckets okay that's looking pretty good go ahead and run this rinse water through my water can too and the beauty is this can go right on the lawn as well a little bit chunky okay got my garden hose here rinse all the equipment one more time now we'll be ready to brew again if we need okay there we are nice and clean the water can chunkies out okay and then I just store all my equipment in my bucket next time I'm ready oh it's all right there okay clean and ready to go again on access to more videos like this click the link
