Hi, I'm bob with PJ trailers. Today I'm gonna show you how to hook up a bumper pull trailer. Before you back your truck up make sure you raise your bumper pull coupler above the ball on your hitch. The ball should be located so the
trailer sits level when connected to the tow vehicle. PJ Trailers uses either a 2 or 2 5/16 ball coupler. The ball and coupler must
match. The size will be indicated on both the ball and coupler. Now you can safely back up
your truck making sure to align the coupler directly above the ball. Before you start to lower the trailer
make sure the coupler is unlatched and in the open position. Now you can
begin to lower your trailer. Visually check that the hitch ball is
fully seated in the coupler. Close coupler securely by ensuring that the hitch ball is fully seated in the coupler ball pocket
and the pin is inserted behind the collar or latch. Do not tow without the pin in
place. Make sure that the trailer safety chains
are properly connected to the towing vehicle. Safety chains should be long enough for
tight turns and be crossed driver side to passenger side, passenger
side to driver side. This will help create a saddle in the event of the trailer detaching from the tow vehicle. Connect breakaway system. It's important to connect this directly
to a secure point on the hitch system. Find your receptacle to hook up the 7-way
plug. Now that the load is off the jack remove the pin, rotate the jack into the
up position, and reinsert the pin to secure the jack. Perform a safety inspection by walking around your trailer to check the marker lights, brake lights and turn signals. If everything checks
out you're ready to start pulling your new
PJ bumper pull trailer.
