Please explain how to sew: easy diy rocking chair slipcover 2018 #nextlevellifestyle

and then I might run and grab a needle for that machine because I'd like to so while you're gone yeah leave in 25 minutes what hello hello it is Catherine joy and today we are going to be doing a next-level lifestyle project so we just showed up here at Hobby Lobby it looks like I might be a little industrious because it looks closed as you can hear we have both kids so let's get started on this project hi hi well we are at 9 minutes early me and the kids and 12 other people over 60 are all waiting here where the hardcore Hobby Lobby ours cannot wait for this door to open Oh Leon Tucker hmm this one looks promising I don't know which one of these to get now that I see them side-by-side few moments dippers good okay so we made at home with our loot I have not sown in forever I actually just got a cell you machine this last week for my birthday it was actually in January from my mom and so I had to get all of the things that you're gonna need to sell anything like pins scissors you name it so here we have everything you're looking for I am going to start by doing a combination of a pull string and a slip covering and before we start know that I have a drinking machine I have no experience in doing either of these things but I just like to get the job done just put the fabric on the chair so now this is going to be very professional but I think we're gonna get the job done I'm gonna start by just spray-painting all of this wood black I am so bad it's spray painting you guys I tend to just spray a big ol clump and get drips like nobody's business so I'm gonna do my best just laying a light coat on and throughout the rest of the afternoon I'm just gonna cut out here and lightly keep spraying this chair over the next three hours to make sure that I don't get any dress I got two and a half yards of fabric for this project and I'm just going to use the shape of the cushions as my pattern as I said before I totally I ball things and just get the job done so there's no science and what I'm doing I'm just using the pillow as a pattern and trying to stay about the same distance away the whole way around now I'm just gonna pin both right sides of the fabric together and stitch it up sewing is one of those things that I am so grateful for I'm so grateful my mom took the time to get us lessons and it's something that I really want to give when she grows up so now that it's stitched all the way around except for just this opening at the bottom I'm going to iron it turn it inside out and then that raw edge on the bottom I'm just going to fold in and iron and this is where I'm going to place my zipper so I will be able to unzip this and throw it in the wash because you guys know with kids it's really helpful to have that option now for the stuffing hopefully I made these corners well around it and I actually am really happy here because this pillow fit perfectly in this bag I thought I might have to stick sunny days but I didn't it totally worked really really well I'm gonna go ahead and sell a new zipper any guys I've tried to do this the first time keeping the pillow in there and trying to sew the zipper on because I was so worried I wasn't gonna be able to get the pillow in the right way the second time however I finally ditched that method took the pillow out and sewed the zipper in I'm not gonna show you guys how to sew a zipper in because I think I did it all wrong but I did get the zipper in the slipcover and that's what matters go ahead and look up another YouTube video if you want to see how to properly insert a zipper into a slipcover now I'm going to go with my second biggest cut which is the seat this has been stained by spit up by I don't even want to know what that giant stain in the middle is we aren't going to talk about it so it definitely needs a cover again I'm just eyeing it then I'm going to fold it over and make sure that these little bumps on either side are symmetrical I didn't show me selling this time but I sewed both sides and left an opening up the bottom and again I'm just gonna iron this and turn it in the side out I had a little bit of beginner slip cover luck because this totally fit perfectly I am super happy with it and I'm not going to show you putting in the zipper on this one for the little arm cutters I did the exact same thing I cut out the fabric but then I left holes at both ends and instead of sewing it like a little bag like I did with the back cover and the seat cushion I'm actually going to stitch the fabric to the actual pillow these aren't covers I'm going to have to upholster meaning I'm not going to be able to take the fabric off and throw it in the wash the reason why is because you can see here these little snaps and those snaps have to snap to the chair so I have to keep those snaps open if they were in a bag or underneath fabric it totally wouldn't work and they wouldn't snap to the chair so my machine actually broke for this part so I had to hand stitch this together it looks really janky but we're gonna cover it up so don't worry at all meanwhile I got sick of sewing on those awful covers by hand and so I started to stitch my buttons onto this pillow also thought I'm gonna have to cut the buttons off to wash this slipcover but if it gets really gross I'll end up washing it then I took this trim and I'm just gonna hot glue it Oh the snacks and over my jaggon selling find goal is that by the end of this no one is going to be a little wiser ah I always burn my hands with this stuff does anyone work with hot glue and have a trick for not burning your hands here's this finished touch I honestly really like how it turned out and I think it's going to be the perfect finish for these are colors here we have all pieces seat cushion the back cushion and the two arms I seriously could not be happier with how this turned out and I cannot wait to put it on the chair that have been spray-painting all afternoon tada here's the chair no drips actually one really tiny drip on the base of the chair but don't tell anyone I told you that because no one's going to notice it Leon my trusty helper throughout this whole thing is still wandering around but he wasn't any help with putting these snaps on I actually had to get Elijah's help to get the snaps off in the first place they are very heavy-duty snaps yay it's cozy and comfy and clean and fresh the last little touch is I hand stitched on little ribbons to secure the back of the slipcover to the back of the chair here you guys can see that last little finishing touch I love the polka dots mixed with the Paisley thank you guys so much for watching I really enjoyed taking you along on the journey of doing these projects if you want to see more home DIY projects hack style okay because I'll just get er done then get this video a thumbs up and I will see you soon have an awesome week
