hi this is market learn how to garden calm I mean today's episode of the ten minute gardener I'm sitting in Betty's ten minute garden and we're going to be doing the start of our second mini series on herbs in our first mini series we covered what you call the big five you know parsley sage rosemary thyme and basil the ones that everybody knows everybody should be using but you know we don't use enough but in this series we're going to be covering lesser-known but just such wonderful herbs real real additions to your recipe cupboard additions to your garden things that can just make dishes zing with taste and as anybody knows who's already subscribes to learn how to garden we don't have recipes on our learn how to garden website if you don't already subscribe it will cost you your email there's a link I think below this video you can pop over if you fancy it but we'll be cutting today about chervil and this little beauty chervil sometimes called gourmet parsley distant really related to parsley it's an annual takes about 20 days to grow to germinate to grow great - so now we're sort of in mid-august it prefers cooler temperatures so it grows really well going into the autumn and it works beautifully with fish pork dishes eggs it really really does sort of bring a lot to them in France there's a classic sort of mix called fine herbs thin herb and chervil is the main constituent of that has a slight and a CD or a nice taste to it and although it likes a really well-drained soil like I said it likes a tiny bit of shade and it likes watering quite frequently not like the classic Mediterranean herbs at all it will not take being left you know in a drought condition really easy really tasty the herb itself you know it'll work beautifully in the salad and it give me that wonderful slight hammer CD taste very soft very feathery another perfect thing is along the front edge of your border you know people grow lobelia why not grow this look at the color of it it looks wonderful you know you rub it you get a slight hint of the flavor but isn't it great you can walk you know you should walking at your path so get home just lean down pick a bit there you go again it comes back to this concept of getting these things into your garden get out there buy a packet of chervil so it now you'll be in this until Christmas you know we'll go great with the Christmas chicken trust me by the time you get to Christmas if you say this now you will be a fan of one of the lesser known herbs one of the you know not the big five but certainly should be grown more widely and that chervil
