hi guys Rick from Japanese bass lures direct again in this video we're going to show you how to make a turbot rig for fishing from the boat this is the standard standard rig we use from the Channel Islands there's a couple of variations that it's nothing complicated it's just a gas a lot lot in the shop you know how'd you catch turbot what rigs to you size hooks and everything like that so we're going to run you through really really simple probably one of the easiest fish to catch so first of all a few components you need decent boom 20 22 centimeter Sakuma boom there get any any boom on this will do eight ounce leds it's really important to keep your bait on the bottom these fish live on the bottom feed on the bottom they do occasionally rise off the bottom too you know if you're lucky in your split you're retrieving the bait at the end of the set end of the drift you sometimes can get a take but most of time they take bait on the bottom so 80 hours LEDs minimum you can go up to a pound but really eight hours LEDs is an 8 ounce LED is absolutely perfect 2 different types of ledges loads of different 8 ounce LEDs on the market at rapido 8 ounce or the the watch LED I like the watch LED because as that's dragging across the bottom you know you're going to it's going to disturb the sound and maybe attract a fish over to you when you would another bite and using the other the other lead but you know it's not not essential so basically what you've got is your touch the boom director led directly to the boom that hangs then keeps the keeps the gear the trace well away from the from the main line so what will do just bear with me a second is this is the main lines have been coming off your off your rod tip I can actually see what I'm doing here so we feed that through this goes through comes out out there on the end of the boom does start start that's done always always put a bead to protect the knot on the Nexus River and it's the small servo I tend to use quite small screws I mean this is probably a 50 or 60 pound breaking strain swivels we're gonna do a blood knock their four or five times around this I'm not used to pretty much everything it never lets me down through the bottom loop back through the top and then wet it down give it a pull cut your tag end off so there you have it that is your boom setup ready to go that that's the the main part of it done and then the next part is the trace so what you want now a lot of people are saying you know you want you want long traces for turn but this our nail though well you know if you need if you need at eight ounces of lead like that to hold your bait hold your rig down on the bottom you know you're fishing with a small four-letter son deal or a couple of Phillips a macro even you know you're not your bait on the long trace is not going to be on the bottom because if you need a on sled to hold the gear down there an ounce or two ounce of the bait is gonna be flailing around flapping around office off the off the seabed so again the blood not this just fixes the fixes the hook on will pull that down pull that tight now trace lines this is mr. brown 20-pound line I'm using just so you can maybe see it a little bit clearer on the video brown or clear does really matter but you want to be using 25 to say 30 pound trace because I've got on abrasive mouth you know after you've got a few fish if you've been lucky they can chafe off your no madre of changing your rig or your trace anyway after every drift after every fish or a couple of fish just to be safe you don't lose your 20 pound turbot you know the side of the boat so the hook is a six i Sakuma my shot really sharp hook and you want about foot of trace there this is the important part again this helps this is really important another swivel just quickly taller arm on the blood not again basically what this swivel does is as the baits being dropped down you know some people drop them down a bit a bit too quick it helps to take the take the spin I'm not livin under some perfect so I'm actually Fisher that not but just for demo it's fine the swivel as your gears forming through the water your bait is likely to spin up and if it spins and triangles around your barrier around your boom setup and everything you know you're not going to be fishing properly so basically this little swivel here helps to take the spin out the bait as they drop into the water so okay so we've got a foot a foot off site right there to your hook into the swivel and then on the back of that you want to put really no more than another three foot maximum of mono this is building up the second part of your trace so another blood not quickly there pull that down tag and off again I hate tag ends on lines tangles so there we go surfer touch there and say just for I'm gonna cut this a little bit shorter but say three foot and my knife again same breaking strain alright three foot of mono there and then that is attached to your swivel that's coming off your boom like so again just with another blood knot pull that down cut the tag end off so what you end up good is your rig like that this is going to drag along the bottom so as you as you're dragging it along this is dragging on the bomb goes through three foot of twenty twenty-five to thirty pound trace to it the swivel takes out spins of the bait when it's fallen and then your six a book now that is really that is it as simple as that you want to let a decent amount of line out from the bow you down on the line going straight down obviously because as you going up and over bumps and lumps on the bottom it's going to jet load off the bottom so you want to let good say you know hit the another 40 50 yards of line out get the line at a nice angle away from the boat another thing we can do as well sometimes I like to do this is you can put a couple of beads above the hook obviously before you put the hook on a couple of beads like that and then also a half-ounce drill bullet it just slides down on the back of the on the back of the beads there that really helps to anchor the bike down on the bottom you know actually using like a lighter bike like a launch for a little something I mean I still use it with with my confidence as well and that that is about it you'll you get the run in the gunnel you put it down you can hold it if you like I prefer to put them down so generally fish with two rods the bites are pretty pretty you'll see you won't miss them really that you tend to get a couple of taps on the rod and then the rod will start pulling over as if you've hit a snag but obviously on some banks you don't generally get snags as soon as that rod starts pulling over more than what you think it would be doing going through the sand free spool the reel let the line go let the line go under control for about I normally count to about 10 seconds when you get to the 10 seconds put it back into gear and then let the rod arch over and then lift back into it with a reasonable amount of pressure don't mean to strike like a a wall thing just like just pull back really good bit of pressure on it and then you'll have the fish on then you just got to just going to get into the boat and that's it guys I mean apart from that I haven't got any buyer here but I have you know six a seven eight hooks you can sometimes fish with her just a single Phillips and deal the full length of a launch so you know eight nine ten inches long another favorite of mine is actually to fulfil it's a mackerel and to fill its of launch or large sandy on then and literally both the tail ends of the Phillips literally just go through the tail ends of the Filat so I go with a hole fill at first for your tail once then I put a launch filler on through the tail once and then I'll put another launch filler on there then I put another filler on so you're not with two Michael Phillips on the outsides and two lawns Phillips on the inside you know and that's a really big bait because I'm always looking for a really big turbot but I've turbot two three four pound on these on the on these sides Bates I've got an exceptionally big mouth they're not scared about eating anything like that you know they'll take whole mackerel so that's it guys give it a go let us now you get on good luck
