Have you met my friend?
>> Who's that? >> Jose. >> [LAUGH]. Yeah, I think I did meet Jose once. >> You did?
>> Mm-hm. I don't remember much about it. >> [LAUGH]
>> Hi. >> Hey everybody. Welcome to How to Feed a Loon. I'm Chris.
>> And I'm Wesley. >> Jose Loon. >> [LAUGH] >> That doesn't even make sense. >> Well you put the hoe in Jose. >> [LAUGH]
>> The loon. >> [LAUGH]
>> Lord. >> It's cocktail hour. I can't help it, yay.
>> Yes, it's cocktail time. >> [LAUGH] >> So today I'm actually going to make this lovely cocktail-
>> Yeah. >> Inspired by the South, Tex-Mex. >> Okay. >> We love Tex-Mex. >> We do. >> So this is actually- >> So you're doing a margarita? >> Yes, no, actually I'm making this-
>> [LAUGH] >> Yes. No, [LAUGH] I'm making the stepsister.
>> Is that the name of the drink?
>> No. >> [LAUGH] >> It's the stepsister to the margarita. >> It's called La Paloma. >> Alright, well, let's get started. >> She's got like a different mother or something. Okay.
>> [LAUGH] Yes, the same father. >> Jose [LAUGH] >> Well a lot of step-sisters out there from Jose, I can tell you that much.
>> [LAUGH] >> Well then they're half then, half sisters.
>> Half, yeah, yeah, yeah. >> Well anyway, we'll get started with the Lapa Loma.
>> We haven't even had any yet, so okay.
>> I know. This is so good.
>> What's it called again? >> It's called Lapa Loma.
>> Lapa Loma? >> And so many people don't realize that I mean, this is actually
a cocktail that's drank a lot. >> It's very popular. >> Yeah, very popular, and it's just almost as popular as the margarita.
>> Yeah. >> But us people in the states, we're always like, margarita.
>> Give me a margarita. Well, I'm-
>> But this is actually just as refreshing, and actually it adds
a little bit of a tartness to it from a little grapefruit.
>> Yeah. >> Okay, well it sounds great so let's make it.
>> Let's get started. >> Okay. So first of all we've got our
white tequila, tequila blanco. >> Okay. Blanco.
>> Mm-hm. You just want to put about a shot and a
half of that into your shaker full of ice. >> Mm, you like your shaker >> I love my shaker. >> [LAUGH] >> He shakes things up with that shaker, I'll tell you that.
>> I do.
>> Wow that's a-
>> That's a shot and a half. >> Well, in the loon world. >> Stop.
>> Okay. >> [LAUGH] And then you're going to take some of your lovely-
>> [SOUND] >> Grapefruit juice. >> I think I just straightened my nose hairs. [LAUGH] Wow.
>> Today you've straightened your nose hairs. [LAUGH] Now I've got my grapefruit juice.
>> Mm-hm. >> So we're going to do about probably two and a half shots, just to give you a
little more grapefruit juice than tequila. >> So I can walk out of here.
>> Yes. >> Without cursing José. >> [LAUGH] Damn you, Jose. >> Jose gets me every time.
>> [LAUGH] >> That's great. I love grapefruit juice. Grapefruit juice.
>> Juice. >> [SOUND] >> I know. >> The fumes. >> All right. >> Okay. >> So we got that in our shaker. I actually like to make it a little sweeter.
>> Some people put actual sugar in there-
>> Yeah. >> But I like to use a little simple syrup.
>> Okay. >> So we're just going to do about a dash of that.
>> A dash of simp. >> A dash of simp. Bah dum damp.
>> [LAUGH] >> Alright. Now we're going to shake this up.
>> Here we go. >> We're going to shake, shake, shake, just until it gets nice and mixed up.
>> Shake it up baby now. Shake it.
>> Flo. Flo's looking at my shaker.
>> Hi Flo. >> She's eyeing my shaker. >> Well, she's not the first one. Flo is our dog.
He's down there. >> They know about Flo. >> It's not like a small person that I'm talking to. [LAUGH] All right, so
we've got this shaken up. So, you're going to set this aside.
>> Okay. >> And you're going to prepare your glass. >> So, I've got a high ball, here.
>> Now I want to get a salt rim around it.
>> Yeah. >> So I've got a little bit, a little slice of my grapefruit.
>> Yeah. >> Just going to get the edge here all good-
>> Okay. >> Good and wet. >> That's making sense so far.
>> And now, what we do is we just kind of do this. So, we're going to just
get it all up there. >> See, you normally would do that with a margarita glass, but
that's quite a different kind of fun. >> No, you can do this. Trying not to make it so. There we go.
>> Trying to make it pretty?
>> Yes. It's hard to do.
>> And this is just good old, coarse salt, right? Margarita salt.
>> Yeah, of course, you can use some sea salt-
>> Sea salt. >> Or some kosher salt even. Leave it in if you want to.
>> That's just coarse sea salt I believe I saw you grabbing.
>> Yes. Now we got some ice because you gotta put
your ice in after you've done the salting. >> Okay. So it's-
>> because you don't want to ruin your salt job. [LAUGH]
>> Yeah. That's never fun.
>> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Let's see. Ph.
It's taking forever. These are slippery little cubes. All right, I'm getting there. We're getting there. We're getting there, okay.
>> Aged another year by the time you finish this drink, but-
>> We've got cubes. Now we have our mixture.
>> Yay, a mixture. >> I just pour it right in there. >> Now another way of making the Paloma is
using a grapefruit soda, like a Fresca or a Squirt.
>> Are those grapefruit drinks? >> Those are soda, it's a grapefruit soda. >> Soda, okay. >> Yes, but I'm making mine with grapefruit juice, and I'm adding
the bubble with a little club soda. >> Club soda, okay. >> So I'm making my own- >> Grapefruit soda. >> Yep.
>> Okay. >> And there we go. >> The topper twister. That's perfect. That looks very- >> Isn't that cute?
>> Looks very refreshing. >> It's adorbs. All right. >> [LAUGH]
>> So now we can just put on my-
>> Of course. >> Here we go. >> We have to garnish. That looks very nice.
>> Look at how cute that is. >> That's very nice. >> That's really nice. >> Isn't that adorable. >> If somebody brought that to me I'd say thanks. >> All right, well- >> Thanks.
>> [LAUGH] >> See, I told you.
>> You're silly today. >> That's-
>> Chris. >> That's a bottle. Okay, I'm going to drink this.
>> You can take the garnish out, or you can throw it in. Mm, it's salt, wow.
>> Yeah isn't it great? >> I really thought, that is really good
>> What did you think? >> I don't know. I guess I haven't ever had one
of these before, but as always, when you make something I'm thinking,
my god, it's going to be so strong, and it's really, it's really, really nice.
>> Thank you, that is a Paloma. >> I can see how this is just as a popular as a margarita.
>> [LAUGH] And isn't it just refreshing. It's like a good hot day,
sit and have a paloma. Yeah, I could sit and have some-
>> And watch people walk by. >> Have some beef tacos and enchiladas- >> Yeah.
>> Drink one of these. >> And you know what? That's perfect for brunch, so
your huevos rancheros, right there. >> It would be perfect too, wow.
>> Yes. >> Now that is a Loon cocktail. >> Yay, now you can get this recipe and many more on howtofeedaloon.com.
