today I'm going to be showing you how to propagate drain use and taking cuttings from them when propagating them are now I'm standing in front of my shed with many geraniums and I'll be showing you how to take cuttings from them now all of these are my geraniums that's a petunia that's drain you Stran you it's fall and they're not looking very well and I just want to take some cuttings before I put them indoors and I'm going to show you that right now how to do that well I'm going to take a cutting probably from this one now all of these shoots right here pretty much can be a cutting like this one right there and all I'm using is just a sharp knife people often use shears scissors you can use any of those I'm just going to use a knife today because that's all I have and we want to do when I pluck this one off right here today now all you want to do is come up to here and you don't need all like any bigger than like three to four inches cutting so you just want to snap it off like right here there you have one and I'm going to cut this one also right here and there you go you got two cuttings now I'm go ahead back to my greenhouse and show you what else to do now here I am on my greenhouse I got these two beautiful cuttings now the tools with the materials you'll need is I got two pots with well-drained soil you don't need them big just I think these are 4 inch you need rooting powder you can get this at Walmart or something it's like five bucks it's not very expensive now some kind of water to spray your plants or water them and your cuttings pretty much now what you want to do is you want to pluck your leaves your bottom leaves most of the leaves actually the reason why is because you don't want to stress the plant because anyone pluck the blooms also because when cutting is just new and it's trying to formulate new roots and it doesn't have any and you're stressing it with photosynthesis you're just gonna stress it and it's not going to be able to produce the roots as best as it would without the leaves now you could just get rid of these leaves you really can't do anything with them and this is what they look like now what you want to do is grab some rooting powder and pour it in on a surface or just get a little container and put it in there the reason why you want to do that is because you don't want bacteria from your plants to get in the rooting powder and then spread on all of your plants if it has some kind of disease all you do is just put some rooting powder knock the excess off you don't need much it will root without a lot now that's what it looks like next you just grab your pots and you make a hole just wide enough for the cuttings is not to touch the arm walls when they're inserted and you just put it in and you pack the soil around it now you want to pack it so your plants wouldn't wobble so they wouldn't oh just fall over you want firm now once you do that you want to give them a good spray now you want to keep them watered every day if not every other day because these plants don't have any roots and trying to formulate them but without any water they can't do that now you could use something else than rooting powder like honey honey will work you just knock it in the honey roll it around and stick it in it won't be as efficient or as good also you can use just water it's not as reliable now I'm going to head back to my a geranium my original geranium where I did the cutting and explained something there now here I am I my geranium I took a cutting from two actually and these two shoots that to the cuttings foam they will grow back and they will start growing they should and your plant should be healthy that's how you take cuttings from a geranium thank you for watching please subscribe and like this video you
