okay one good way to tie something off to a post for starters is the clove hitch so this is our post here so to tie start with your running end of the rope and you go over the top of the post or around the side of the post and then come back up to make a twist then you cross over on the top of the post and go around and bring another loop on top and holding everything still you go underneath your cross that's a clove hitch here clove inch so what you do is with I mean you ever you make a knot you do what's called dressing and setting it it might be sort of sloppy and then you clean it up and move it around tighten to make it look pretty so dress and set it and then you take your running end and do a stopper knot on it this is just a half hitch looped around and pulled up tight and there you've got this you can tie a little knot and then so it doesn't fray and just cut it off the extra or something so that's one end so then you want to go and make the clothesline so this is a trucker's hitch you just go around your post here we could have walked around there and then yeah you should come and stand behind me because you would be making the knot from this direction so you can see it okay so this is a trucker's hitch first you're gonna make like a loop in the rope like a slipknot and you do that by putting your hand underneath the rope grabbing the rope and turning it down to make a twist okay now you have so you have your underneath rope and then on top rope and then you bring up a loop from the bottom and pull it through making a knot so this is actually a slip knot because the Rope can slip back and forth so but it's not going to slip in this application the way we're doing it now so you got a slip knot here with a loop in it and then you take the tail of your rope and loop it through your Slipknot and what you've just done is you've created a compound pulley because you have two directions of force that are opposing each other and you have a pulley here and a pull a hair and that is what gives you the extra strength
