so today we're putting in a doggie door and this is for a kind of a big lab this is a medium-sized one but is it a medium or a small one you still got to cut out one rib and it's really not going to lose much of your strength because you still have another one right here on the way up to the top so but we need we do need to cut this out and you can take your pick where you want to cut it at if you want it over closer to the lock side you can that's what I'm going to do or you could have it to Center which means a little more work filling in on each side or you can put it on the hinge side so you've got your choice however you want to do it you can now if you do it over here on one of the edges you want to try to leave the millwork so in case you ever want them which I know you're not do you ever want to resave the door you can because the edges of this door is going to leave us enough room to work we can overhang that millwork just enough now let's see the top and bottom yes we're going to be able to save the top millwork and the bottom millwork so we're at that where we can say that without having to cut it out the only thing we're going to lose is just this one piece of course if you really wanted to you could just cut this out completely and then just put in one big panel at the bottom but normally what usually happens is whenever you sell have so much it's going to replace the door anyway all right let's mark this thing and since this has been purchased before it seems as though we don't have the paperwork but we'll get to come and others get from its edge of the screws or just edge of the screw of course I know everybody's going to disagree with me about work I should cut it out in the door I mean it's not going to weaken the door more that if you cut it out in the middle or each side it won't matter if you think it's going to cause a problem you can always strengthen up the bottom and you can always strengthen up the one above it you know you put some braces across there whatever you want to do but yeah just whatever you think best but in my case we're taking it out over here and of course we got to make sure that he's got clear sailing yet that side of the door in other words there's nothing against the wall that would keep them from having to come in or out and I'm glad I noticed that because yeah there's a shelving unit right there the side that side so we're in great shape so we can put it on the on the lock side and then like I said we're going to measure from from screw holder to screw holder sideways screw holder to screw holder up and down and then we're going to mark it out and lay it out and cut it [Applause] okay let's get that one mark okay houses and you've seen some other videos you don't use that salt cut all the way over over cut it in this case you can over cut it just a hair but not much we'll use a sawzall to finish up the edges the corners [Applause] now let's put our dog in all of its expense my dog fits like it it's like a doggy door now there is an inside and outside you know the inside has the clapper plus it has the doorstop where the dog can't get in or out the screw holes they need to be facing up so I can get to hey I just wanted to show you the cutout so here's our there's one of the ribs we had to cut out they're called rails sides are called sides across styles but anyway this is the rail and it's you know when we put our our doggy door in there it's going to strengthen this up some but you can see along the top and along this edge we've been able to save this milled edge in case for some odd reason somebody wants to come in here and save this door and course will keep the peace down there on the ground there knows this one you could put the door back on it a little bit easier to put it on because you could just reach your hands or here on this coming up [Applause] this is another reason why it's good to cut it on the edge because now all we got to do is just spill these two edges right here you can fill it full of code but they'll probably take a whole two and then plus soon as you hang it costs can start dripping out so we're just going to cut some little sticks and put in there we got we got some one by four and they need to be 7/16 cut these little hands on there and clearly a meal see now spitting flush up against it and there so now you got to do is just tell your little caulking on there and a little bit of paint as you can see the other side is flush against the door tops against the top rail I mean the center rail and of course the bottom is in great shape here missed a little spot over here too okay after that dries you can just touch it up with a little paint that way the only thing you got to touch up on this door is just those two little edges right there everything else is done now let's try to get train a dog to come through there you all right I guess you won't go back in now
