Please explain how to sew a sequin japanese tote bag sewing tutorial

hi I'm tree and this is stitches TV now today we are going to make a very very easy but professionally finished Japanese toner now I am a very big fan of Japanese tote bags particularly when they have gorgeous leather or fake leather handles on them and when I do make them I like to use interesting fabrics and is there anything in there no I like to make them so that they are completely reversible now the fabric that we're using today is my own design and it is some secret fabric that I had printed a company called fashion formula for the other side of the fabric I'm using an old bedspread because I just love how gorgeous all this quilting looks now if you love if you quite like these designs you will soon be able to buy them in an online shop that I'll be having at Fashion formula and you can get them printed onto any fabric that they have this fabric that I've got here as a waterproof fabric and it's called tent X fabric and it's really wide and very brilliant and this too would make the most amazing Japanese tote bag now the pattern for these bags is really easy because basically it is a great big rectangle now the size of the rectangle is just like three squares join together so what I mean is whatever the width is so if it's 30 centimeters then the length of your rectangle is going to be 90 centimeters but just add on two more centimeters onto the length a bit like this so once you cut out two rectangles one that's going to be the backing fabric and one that's going to be the top fabric but remember your bags going to be reversible so once you cut out two rectangles the other thing you need is another rectangle of leather or fake leather here I've got some foiled leather now this just needs to be roughly and I say 20 centimeters by 10 centimeters roughly and what happens is this becomes the handle of the bag now I always make it bigger than I need so that I can do a stitch line and then trim it back close that way it looks really neat now lay your fabric exactly on top of each other and then just give yourself little notches you've got to line up your fabrics and then give yourself little notches okay little snips into the fabric kind of like I do know every 20 centimeters also so that all your fabric is lined up really nicely then on one of one edge fairly near to a corner give yourself two slightly bigger notches because that's where you're going to leave a gap when you sew the rectangles with the fabrics right sides together you're going to leave a gap and it will when you turn it through so depending on how thick your fabric will determine how big your hole needs to be so this stage is basically like making just a great big long bagged out scarf I'm beginning on the second big notch on the edge which is where my openings going to be now going to line up my notches look lining up notches don't need pins and I'm doing like a large centimeter seam allowance gonna go forward some back now even though it's sequins there's small sequence they're facing down so it's not going to be a problem for me to so I'm not cheating and I'm just going to sew all the way around so let's do a little bit with you and then we can have a look again when we get to the other side okay I thought I should show you this for those that are not really experienced sewers and we're going to stop about a centimeter from the edge and in order to go around that corner I have to make sure the needle is in and then I lift up the first and I turn around my fabric now make sure it's all good and I'm lining up my not Chiss see look not just aligning up and then when I'm happy I drop the first and I like start sewing down the next stage and then I do the same when I get to the other corner and work my way up and go all the way around so we're coming to the last bit now that's where we started and these are our extra-large notches that signify we have to leave that as an opening I think I might make it a bit bigger than that actually so I'm gonna stop about there and I will go back to school to close off the sea so that was pretty easy now before we turn it the right way round can you my to the corners you do a little snip on the corner just to take away the excess okay like that but make sure you don't accidentally cut where the stitch line is cuz then you end up with the hole right then you're going to put your hand inside and you're gonna turn it the right way round now you can do this however you want it's just like turning a pillowcase or do faith but I like to fold in the edge and then just bring in the corner and they do the same on the other side so I'm gonna fold in my edge and then bring in the corner hopefully my hole will be big enough another spare so I've got to do the same to my other corners then we end up with that which is very very nice now before we think about stitching up the hole what I want you to do is take it to an iron and if you've got sequin fabric be careful and just press your seams okay just press your seams so they're really nice and crisp Oh actually I didn't mention so that opening I've impressed it so I pressed the opening now I put a bit of Bhandar web in there to hold it in place but you can stitch it up my hand okay or do you both because it makes it easier to have Sarah you decide which side you want to be your outside fabric okay so if you want your outside fabric to be this side then that's the one that we have facing up now this opening I want to make sure it gets trapped into a since I'm going to be keeping an eye on there so you fold in one corner one way Sylla I folded that going to this edge here at the bottom edge and then I've got to fold the other one going the other way now I believe that this is meant to be a trapezium or is it a rhombus maybe you can tell me and then when you've done that you have to bring that corner to meet there so you end up with this kind of shape now when you're happy that everything is lined up you've got to get some yeah real life pins look there they are tree with pins sometimes we need pins put those together when I know that they're in exactly the right position and I'm going to put a pin through all those layers and they are quite thick now if you don't want to sew this on your sewing machine then you can do it by hand it would be absolutely fine to sew by hand now I think what things a bit blunt let's try that thing I just want one pin there to hold it in place because I know that I'll stop when I get down the other end there now I'm gonna very carefully keep it in its position flop it over and then pin the other side so make sure that they're all nice and neat there I'll get another pin and then up in the other side when you're happy that you've got it in the right shape what you can do is you get your seam ready for you to sew so what you're gonna do is you're going to sew just down that seam which you can do by hand or on the machine but I'm gonna have a go that doing it on the machine but I might have to get my titanium needles you should know about this really so I used a regular needle and of course I started in it immediately broke so two things either I say kept cuts away the excess seam allowance inside so the seam isn't so bulky also you have to lift up your foot pressure if you have a adjustable foot pressure on the top of your machine but you know what these you see these that says titanium titanium own which I imagine is really strong needles Brillion didn't break at all fantastic and I just use the the biggest size right so I will show you now so I'm lifting up my foot so I can get my fabric in under me and I'm just using the wheel on the side for this mega mega bulky bear taking it easy because it's really thick in the first part and it's also thick further on as well and I help a small centimeter but you can make this seem Lance as big as you want so obviously if I didn't have all that pulp over there it wouldn't be quite as hard as this then look how this titanium needle oh wow what a monster it's just cruising through all these layers now take it easy when you get to the end so I'm using a bit the way over there and you do need to go backwards or it's back this force a few times there let's have a look this is always really exciting there so once you've chopped off all your loose threads you can turn it the right way around although it can be either way back push out my corners look at that that is very amazing and what happens is they come together at the top and you end up with a very cool Japanese tote bag so before we do that we've got to stitch our leather together now when you sew your leather or your fake leather now we gave you the measurements before but you kind of want it to to be a bit bigger than you need now at the moment I haven't got a special leather needle you should have a leather needle when you do it I'm gonna roughly line it up let's see forward some back and look I'm sewing it bigger than I need okay that seems to be okay now the reason why I did my seam allowance bigger than I need it is because then I can trim it back so it looks like by very neatly sewed really close to the edge right so you've got your sleeve okay your leather sleep thing and you've trimmed back your edge basically what we have to do this we have to get one of the edges one of this lot to go through the sleeve they push it down down and then we bring the other edge to there which is kind of tricky to do so I found if I get a really big needle with like four layers of thread or some really thick thread and I thread it through one end and I try and make this as small as possible sometimes I even put a load of masking tape around it and I'm gonna push the needle through my sleeve so I'm pushing the needle through the sleeve and the reason why I'm doing that is because then I'm hoping it'll help me to pull that end through there so I'm just gonna have it go down I think it's gonna be particularly tricky because I've got sequin fabric let's see how we get on see if you just leave me for a few minutes played with this or fight with it and I'll report back right that was really hard work that was really hard work with it being sequin fabric and I don't want to let go okay but what you need to know is I cut another one that was a bit shorter so I didn't have so much squidging to do if I had enough of the leather I would have made a tunnel or a sleeve that was a bit wider that would make my life easier okay I didn't have any more of I didn't have enough to make it wider so what's really important is if you get as much of this point out as possible because what you need to do is you need to overlap here with the other side and you are going to so now this again you can do this by hand as well if you want but this is where this has to be really strong all right so you've got to do this properly now I'm going to use the wheel to go forwards through all of this stomach stitch it's I've got it all safe fill in position I'm using the wheel on the side right so I'm going to keep going over that a few times now I don't think I can go back to some forwards I don't think it's gonna work maybe try so I'm just gonna lift it and go back to the beginning again and then so again because I think if I go back because the needle oh we're here to kite so just keep doing that right lots and lots of time so anything okay now I know you're probably thinking how come he don't just sew them together and then wrap that handle around it you can't do that if you want but I just really like the way it looks tight over the the fabric on the shoulder it looks more professional so then what you have to do I'm gonna lick my hand stick you've got a pole you're gonna pull that sleeve over the other side of there so basically covering up where you've just so where's that so that's a little bit of a struggle but it's not quite as bad as the other side let's say you end up where special professional-looking Japanese Topa and that doesn't look good so look that is pretty special and looks like a very classy design a bag now if you use special digital print fabric and if you choose to use it from my shop you can probably make this bag for other notes I mean like 25 pounds which I know isn't really cheap but look what you get you get something totally amazing but otherwise just use other unusual fabric so this is the runner-up prize which was four QAD's Joe for this amazing sculptural bucket code anyway if you make any of these Chuck Feeney's tote bags or if you want more information about stitch 'less TV digital printed fabric just comment below but I'd love to see your Japanese tote bags so share them on Instagram or my facebook page thank you so much for watching and see you again very soon bye [Applause] you
