hey YouTube alright I'm going to show you how to prepare a cat 5 or cat 6 cable so that you can put it on one of these cat5 cat6 connectors and crimp it hopefully you're going to have some wire cutters if you haven't done this before hopefully you'll have a metal scale and if you don't you can hit in this trial and error so you finally figure this out maybe you have a jacket stripper if not you can use wire cutters they work fine you can use a razor blade but kind of dangerous and you're going to need a cat5 crimping tool you don't have to buy an expensive one you can buy a piece of crap it really doesn't matter you might want some freezers you don't really need them in case you need to get some help pushing the wire in there there's a zillion videos on YouTube on how to do this stuff most of these guys are pros they do this every day and the goal really isn't to show you how to do it the goal is to show you how [ __ ] and they are and how cool they are that they can strip this thing in ten seconds and put it together and you keep clicking pause saying what the hell did you do so my video is probably going to be about seven or eight hours long but at least you're going to get some understanding how to do it I could use some wire cutters but I'm not going to right now on since I've got this cool little stripper so let's go in there use some wire cutters you're going to see how I'm going to do this very lightly because I don't want to break the jacket I mean I do want to break the jacket but I don't want to break deep the wire underneath you just want to score this thing a little bit put on some magnifiers make sure that I'm going to do that right now make sure that you didn't break the outer jacket of these colored wires because if you did you can screw the whole thing out it might still work but it's not the right way to do it let me try to zoom in a little bit more if I can all right so that's the first step go in there and cut some wire and I wrote it down over here I got a little thing that says 9/32 that's normally what I use is a scale I just grab my scale marked 9/32 let's look at this a little bit I know the cameras off it's 9/32 but if you go in there and you measure you really the whole goal is to get the wire to get the wire let's get this on the video you want the wire to sit all the way at the end underneath these metal tangs but you want you don't want wire to be where this little push pin is the push pin needs insulation so that you can when you crimp it will push this pin in is that better it's kind of crappy hard to see what I'm doing right now when you crimp the the connector it will push this pin in and it will have this insulation and the pin will bite down on the insulation so that you won't so if you pull on the wire what a lot of us do it won't Bend the wires and break everything off a lot of times for people who don't know what they're doing you'll see or if people have pulled on the wires a lot you'll see a print job kind of like this the crimp has been done on the wires and this is hanging out like this that's wrong over time well it will work probably but over time it might break you want strain relief on the rubber insulation so what you're going to need to do first is after you strip this stuff these pairs is a green and white pair there's an orange and white pair there's a brown and white pair there's a blue and white pair but when they go in the connector they don't go next to each other so you need to unpack you've done this the most important thing is after it you do this after you one twist it do you see how I'm holding over here you need this stuff straight if this isn't straight that if you're a pro it's going to be a piece of cake if you're not a pro if the pain in the ass to make this work and to get these things to go into the holes of the connector properly and especially if the wire is not straight so at least for your first time too you'll learn how to do this get rid of those kinks you don't want to be kinky when you're doing this there's some cable jive that I'm going to be pull out of that cutting out of there in a minute I'm going to finish I'm twisting the wire and going slow a lot of mighty people do this stuff for a living they're very quick about like I said and all they want us a connection the work that I do it needs to be right and it cannot be screwed up and the better the connection the better everything is so just try to get a little more light on this so once you get good at this it's a few second job I spent times work took me 30 minutes to do this so I could not get the wire to go in there because it was crappy wire and then I've spent times worked at me 30 seconds to do I'm gonna take these cutters and cut off this white guy over here it's in the cable okay so we've got all of our wires out and they're fairly straight what I'm going to do you see how I made this little zoom back out so you can see that I don't know if you can see that you see how I made this little law you can't see that it's chart over here this little law gauge for myself 9/32 so what I'm going to do is I'm going to put the wire right down there and I'm going to take my covers and I'm going to cut each wire nice and clean when you use that I want you to see this is the pattern for wiring you can see this is the contact on top that means these metal contacts are going to be on top when you're doing this the little Tang interesting the Tang on this one is broken great okay someone have to get another one the Tang is on the bottom the contacts are on the top and the wire goes in here from the back so this is how his connector is going to be done in fact when you reach over here and get a good connector right now so that's how it's going to be done wires going to go in here contacts are on the top the tang is on the bottom and the wire will slide in here so before and I disappeared to cut the wires before you cut the wires what you want to do you try to get that so you can see it you need these wires to be perfectly lined up before you cut the wires because you need if it's a fraction off it's not going to fit in the connector right it will work probably but it's you're better off making it easy on yourself orange white goes to the left the next one is orange the next one over is green white next one is blue next one is blue with a white stripe next one is a green wire final one is brown with a white stripe and then brown on the end so what you want to do is you want to get all your wires in the right order that's why I said straighten them out you want to get all of them it's kind of a pain in the ass to do but you're going to want to get all of your wires in the proper order and then when you get to that point that I'm not even showing that right you're going to want to line them up and then you're going to want to put your finger over here and then make your cut so I'll show you that in a minute alright the videos back on what I did is I put a little black dot hopefully you can see it I put a little black dot right at the 9/32 mark and then I lined up all these wires exactly like I told you you can see I'm pinching them with my fingers right now orange white orange green white blue blue white green brown stripe and then brown I'm going to take my cutters and I'm going to go right over here at the blue I mean it's a little black dot hopefully you can see this and I'm gonna make my cut a hard part and you don't do this every day is keeping all of this lined up now the key is you get your connector where the hell did I put my connector it was here a second ago there's my connector get the good character then all these wires need to go into this unit perfectly straight because they have to go into a little smanos as inside there each wire has to fit in so I just slit all the wires in and you want to make sure that they went in I want you to be able to see this really well so get the camera over here hopefully you can see that I don't know if you can see it all the wires slid into the little opening zoom in over here so you can see little openings down there little channels for each of the eight wires if you don't pinch the wire like I was doing let me zoom out if you don't pinch the wire like I was doing and hold those wires and if you don't straighten them beforehand they're not going in there they get a it's a it's a pain in the ass like I said I spent many a time trying to do this and okay so the wires are in there they appear to okay you can see if they're not all the way seated you want them to be pushed in there all the way that's the whole catch I don't know if you just saw how much that moved as I pushed in and as I push in if you can see from the back now the blue insulation is showing and the blue insulation just barely is inside that little pinch area now if I have better eyes or normally I take a microscope and I'd look underneath there a magnifier to make sure all the wires are pushed in and they're all perfectly lined up I'm looking it appears that they are all are they all are in there okay so what you do then I'll zoom out you do is you take your crimping tool and you put it in there's a little channel over here you put it in all the way into the tool you want to press again like I said you want to make sure it's seated so you press in on your cable a little bit not so hard to you bend it and then you squeeze the handle pull out alright and what you have here is a perfectly crimped cable these little the crimping tool took these little gold contacts and press them down into the wire into the insulation the tool took that little pin show you over here took this pin over here and jammed it into the connector and hopefully you can see it on the video and indented the cable so it now has strain relief all of these wires are seated inside there let's see if you can see it from the back hopefully all eight wires are in there again you do not want to I know there's eight wires you don't want to just say well let me take eight wires on one side and I'll put the same eight wires and on the other side and I'll have a cable you don't want to do that well you could do that but you shouldn't do that because these wires are speaking sending signals on different pairs and you don't want to have cross type problems so you want to make sure that you do the color pattern like I was explaining to you again I will show you one more time the tang is on the bottom your contacts are over here this would be pin one little push pin is on the top pin one would be orange white striped pin two would be orange pin three would be green white striped pin four blue pin five blue white striped pin six green ten seven brown white striped and pin eight brown towards your right so that's one and that is eight and that is how you crimp a cat5 connector or a connector onto cat5e or cat6 cable I know I took my time I went in detailed but I think it makes a big difference if you do so let me let me shut this off a minute okay I just wanted to finish this up so you can see the drawing contacts are on top when you're looking at it wire goes in from the back when you were looking at this drawing your little hook is on the bottom underneath you that is the color pattern for the B standard for rj45 wiring and there's my little scale that I have over here 9/32 and I usually put the insulation right over the line on the little bit in so it's even shorter than a nine thirty seconds and then as you saw I took all my wires I line them up I held them with my finger nail on my thumb and my finger between make sure they're all lined up do a cut on the wires and then try to slide them into here the first couple times like I said I've spent half an hour doing some of these when I was using the wrong wire and if you do this every day it will be much easier for you but if you don't at least you can save yourself a few bucks make your own cables buy some wire buy some connectors buy a crimping tool and have a lot of fun with this hopefully you learn something from this video and thank you hey people all right I wanted to add one thing onto this video on for those of you that do not have the stripper that I was talking about which is most people you don't need that like I said you can use a razor blade or use a pair of wire cutters just lightly look what I'm doing here just lightly Nick the jacket lightly lightly missed this jacket all the way around and you can see what's gonna happen once you get it in I've already nicked only about half of it let's see what happens I'm just going to spin I'm going to pull a little bit there you go okay I just wanted that to be in the video so you don't need to spend a lot of money to buy tools the most important thing is you need some halfway-decent wire cutters don't go out and spend 50 cents at Home Depot and buy wire cutters you don't want to do that you want to buy some good wire cutters that are going to make your life much easier slowly unwind all of these wires again like I showed you I don't even measure this out yet it looks like it's good enough slowly take your time do this right straighten these wires out you want them straight it makes a big difference when it goes into that connector you saw how it went in for me on the first time that's because the wires are straight how well do you think that wire is gonna well well let me let me do this let me unwind these two wires how well is that going to line up inside the connector you think that's going to go what happens if I cut it off over here now I've got this big gap OSIS over here what if I have to cut it out over here and so I've got all these wires they're all over are all over China okay so you got to do it right take your wires unwind them straighten them out make them straight it's worth the time unless you're a professional watching this video then well if you're a pro you wouldn't be watching this video unless you wanted to be a jerk and that's why I will disable comments on the video so I don't have to hear all that junk this is to teach people to educate people a lot to put people down so you want it as straight as you can you might have to move your fingers around the wire so that you get out all the kinks but that's what you want to do you want the wires straight and then the fun part is lying on everything up and how are we lining this up you're lining it up with rain ending with orange white kind of sucks that they can't just make this so it's easy to do they can't or they doubt one's white I'm going to go back down over here take my bones wait Capel marker or right at the one white thing and I want to say all right the jacket is over at the redline plunge white needs to get cut over there and so we've got one white lawns white try to make it get out there as far as I can to the end orange white you see the little black dot that I put over there orange this one's all mixed up compared to the other one the other one they all just went together really easily ones white orange green white Wow blue see you can see how they're all Keeling and tangling up that they're more white orange green white blue blue white we like how the greens wrapping all over hell green while light brown this is going to be a little mousy er than the other ones white orange blue whoops it already twisted lawns white orange green white blue just cables fighting me ones wipe orange green white blue blue white green brown white brown this is going to be a tough one to put in our hotel you wires are all over the place they don't want to go together and I did straighten them out that's the advantage of get these kinks out of here all right so the wire cutters kind of it the little line that I put in there I don't think these are that good cutter so they went flying all over he'll take the connector orange white orange green white blue green brown light brown push them down on the bottom hopefully these are all going to seat and go into their holes nope just screw it up and that's the problem so I'm kind of glad this happened so you could see what can and what happens sometimes it's not all the time but it happens and why is it happening because these wires are not perfectly straight and so when it goes into the connector they just don't want to feed in and I let go a little bit and it just all went to help plus it's upside down which doesn't really help maybe somebody maybe more of you notice that brown brown white green all right it's seated in there they are all in there hopefully you can see that the video clip the connector crimping tool put the thing and it only goes in one way make sure you put pressure on the wire so it's seated squeeze the handle and pull the sucker out all right you don't really need to see me plug this thing in but I'm going to plug it in right now make sure it's tested all these wires are seated all the way to the end as you hopefully can see on the video they're seated all the way to the end you want to look at the tip make sure they're seated in there and they're are locked in under these tabs these contacts and the insulation is pushed in there and all right let's connect on each end of the cable and that's how you make your own cables see ya all right I figured kind of proved that my work was right so I plugged this into a router hopefully my crimping was good and the routers got a signal because I don't know if this router work but if it does we'll get a little green light there and you'll know that this video was not a big waste of time okay trying to plug it in in the dark can't really see too well that's why I'm fidgeting around all right we gonna get a green light go over here that's the green light which tells you that there is internet hold on a minute all right I know I could have tricked you but there's no reason to do that I had to plug into that router I plugged it into the router that I know is good and immediately got my signal so hey it's kind of cool and it worked and that's all that matters
