greetings Gastronauts this is Keef cooks I'm Keef and today I'm not cooking yay I'm gonna do the first in an occasional series of kitchen tips and the first one is how to get your filthy pans really clean and shiny just like you so you do a bit of cooking you do a bit of washing up you wash it you wash the inside and get it lovely and clean you forget completely about the outside and before you know it it's got stained it's not actual stuff stuck on the metal is stained and it's very hard to get off but with this method it's very simple it involves using baking soda bicarbonate of soda which is perfectly safe it's edible it doesn't taste nice but you can't eat it and it really works so let's do it so I've got a frying pan any large pan with a load of water in it and I'm going to bring that to the boil and you also want to add couple of teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda baking soda so that's bubbling away nicely and I'm just going to pop the pan in actually I'm gonna put some of the water in there as well and turn the heat down because it's gonna be crazy and you just want this to bubble away for maybe five minutes and then for them we'll see how we're getting on obviously there's not obviously it doesn't do the whole pan I will have to turn it over to do the rest but this is just to demonstrate the principle right so after five minutes I'll just carefully empty that pan and pop it on here and we'll have a we'll have a wipe and see what happens oh it's still hot so that came off so you can see this staining is coming away this black stuff that's almost solid carbon that's going to need scraping with a knife or something which I might do at some point but yeah that's working so I'm gonna put it in the other way up now so you found out the rim of the pan dunk would be a good idea if I had a bigger vessel right another five minutes so let's do a bit more scrubbing hey I never said this was easy or magic did I own it is easy but it does actually involve it a little bit of effort like most good things in life and if you're concerned about using a scourer on your pans well I wouldn't use one on a nonstick pan Teflon pan but stainless steel no problem because the natural finish of stainless steel is millions of tiny little scratches oh yeah this is working great so while I've got this going having a girl with this little roasting tin which might be might be beyond saving I don't know let's have a go actually now that's coming off quite well so yeah so I had a bit of a scrub with this one it's not brilliant but I've got the energy to persevere with that but it's made a big big difference there and now I'm just gonna have another go at these black bits on the bottom because I reckon they will come off they are coming off they're gone yeah so there you go wonderful kitchen hack bicarbonate of soda baking soda and a bit of time and elbow grease and Japan is going to be as good as new and that's that I hope you enjoyed it now please share it with all your buddies on social media subscribe to Keith's cooks if you haven't already done so and join the conversation make comments request recipes generally engage in witty banter keep it civil or I will ban you thanks for watching and see you next time
