Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen, and in this segment,
we're going to learn all about Canterbury Bells or Campanula Medium. And they're officially
a biannual, because you start them one year, you just get the foliage, and you don't get
blooms until the second year, and then they keep receipting themselves as well. So they're
a beautiful plant, that is found from Europe. Now when I think of Canterbury Bells, I think
of Canterbury England, because there's a city near London, towards the beach, going towards
Europe that is called Canterbury. And it's a beautiful little town, and there's beautiful
Canterbury Bells, blooming all through the town. And they're also found all over Europe.
So they're one of the few, true European flowers that we grow. Now they're actually native
to Southern Europe, so originally, they were found in native areas of Southern Europe,
and then through history, they were brought to the Northern countries. So a lot of people
still say they're from the Northern Europe, but there's proof that they're actually from
Southern Europe. They do well in sun to part shade, and you keep them wet, never let them
dry out at all. And once they're done blooming, periodically, so you can cut them back and
they'll keep blooming, and you'll get a second or third set of blooms, and it's just a great
way to grow them. So Canterbury Bells are just a long flower with many, many bright
white, and purple bells hanging from the flower. It's just a gorgeous plant. They make great
cut flowers. The blooms last weeks, and weeks, and they are very dependable once you get
them going. But because they're biannual, sometimes you don't get blooms the first year,
and that's okay because they're a plant that you'll enjoy for many years.
